The reciter: Muhammad ibn Bashar narrated to us, Ghandar narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us from Zayd al-Iyami from al-Sha'bi from al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The first thing we begin with on this day is that we pray, then we return and slaughter. Whoever does so has followed our Sunnah. And whoever slaughters before [the prayer], then it is only meat he has prepared for his family; it is not part of the ritual in any way. Then Abu Burdah ibn Niyar stood up, having already slaughtered, and said: "I have a one-year-old sheep." He said: "Slaughter it, but it will not suffice for anyone after you."
Sahih al-Bukhari 5545 Matarf narrated from 'Amir from al-Bara' that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever slaughters after the prayer has completed his ritual and followed the Sunnah of the Muslims.
