The benefits of the hadith: (… I saw you doing four things that I have not seen any of your companions do. He said: What are they, O Ibn Jurayj? He said:)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This hadith contains the benefit of following a scholar in his actions and asking about what differs from what others do, for his difference may be due to a trace of knowledge.
It also contains evidence that leaving something is a recommended practice, just as doing it is a recommended practice, because Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) would not touch anything except the two Yemeni corners, which are the Black Stone and the Yemeni Corner of the Ka'bah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not touch anything except the two Yemeni corners.
It also contains evidence of the ignorance of people today in touching all the corners, and even things that are not corners; they touch everything, claiming by this that they are honoring Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and that they are worshipping Allah by doing so. The truth is that honoring Allah is by doing His commands, avoiding His prohibitions, and adhering to His Shari'ah. Likewise, regarding the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), loving and honoring him is by doing what he did.
It also contains evidence of the virtue of Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and his eagerness to follow the Sunnah. Let us look at these four things:
First, he says: "I saw you not touching any of the corners except the two Yemeni ones", which are the Black Stone and the Yemeni Corner, and they are called that because they are on the Yemeni side. Ibn Umar answered him by saying:
“Abdallah b. 'Amr said God’s messenger was never seen reclining while eating, nor walking with two men at his heels. Abu Dawud transmitted it. لم أرى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم يستلم إلا اليمانيين
Mishkat al-Masabih 4212
meaning, I do what he did and leave what he left.
He said: "And I saw you wearing the Saturday sandals", meaning those that do not contain hair. He answered:
As for the tanned leather shoes, I have seen the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) wearing tanned leather shoes وأما النعال السبتية فإني رأيت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم يلبس النعال التي ليس فيها شعر
Sunan Abi Dawud 1772Sahih (Al-Albani)
Thus, he (may Allah be pleased with him) explained that the Saturday sandals are those that do not contain hair, "so I like to wear them".
He said: "And I saw you dyeing with yellow", such as saffron, safflower, and the like. He said:
And about the dyeing of hair with Hinna; no doubt I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) dyeing his hair with it and that is why I like to dye (my hair with it). وأما الصفرة فإني رأيت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم يصبغ بها فأنا أحب أن أصبغ بها
Sahih al-Bukhari 166
.
Regarding declaring the state of ihram, he says: "I saw the people declaring their state of ihram when they saw the new moon, but you did not declare it until the Day of Tarwiyah". When is the Day of Tarwiyah?

The questioner : The eighth.

The Shaykh : The eighth day of Dhul-Hijjah, and it is called that because it is the day on which people moisten their water. He (may Allah be pleased with him) answered that by saying:
Regarding Ihlal, I did not see Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) assuming Ihlal till he set out for Hajj (on the 8th of Dhul-Hijja). وأما الإهلال فإني لم أرى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم يهل حتى تنبعث به راحلته
Sahih al-Bukhari 166
It is thus clear that Ibn Umar differed from the people by following the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
It also contains that it is obligatory, indeed required, for a scholar, if the Sunnah has died out among the people, to revive it; he should not do what the people do, but rather do what the Sunnah brought.
What is the meaning of his saying: "dyeing with yellow" "dyeing with yellow"?

The questioner : It is not complete.

The Shaykh : This is not complete, yes, what does it say in the opening? It does not work, we must refer to something previous or subsequent.
The student: It was mentioned earlier in the chapter on saffron.

The Shaykh : Yes?
The student: It was mentioned earlier in the chapter on saffron.

The Shaykh : In the chapter on what?
The student: Saffron.

The Shaykh : Okay, and what does it say? Saffron was passed to us as permissible for clothes but not for the body. Okay.

The questioner : Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes?
