The questioner : When I make certain supplications, doubt overtakes me, so I repeat them multiple times at the same time. I fear that I am not having good expectations of my Lord, or that I am not calling upon Him, and I am a believer in the response, so anxiety befalls me because of that. What do you call such a condition? May Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh : I say: Repeating supplication is a required matter. The more a person repeats the supplication, the better it is. And it was from the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that he:Mishkat al-Masabih 5847 This is in most cases. And on this basis, there is nothing wrong with repeating supplication, because supplication is worship of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
And let it be known that the one who supplicates with truthfulness and sincerity must gain: either Allah the Exalted responds to him with what he desired, or He averts from him an evil that is greater, or He stores up for him the reward on the Day of Resurrection, because supplication is worship, so there must be good in it.
As for her saying that she fears she may have become desperate of the response, or something similar to that, this is an error on her part. And it is obligatory for a person to have good expectations of Allah the Exalted. And Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is according to the expectation of His servant of Him. So if you have good expectations of your Lord, and He (Exalted and Majestic is He) is the place of good expectations and the place of praise, then that is closer to the response. And do not despair of the mercy of Allah, for none despairs of the mercy of his Lord except the misguided. You must have hope, even if the response is delayed.
The questioner : May Allah reward you with good for this blessed guidance.
