Do the questions asked by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) have a secret behind them, even though he knows that a person’s wealth is dearer to him than the wealth of his heir?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Do the questions from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) have a secret behind them, even though he (peace and blessings be upon him) knows that a person’s wealth is dearer to him than the wealth of his heir?

The Shaykh : No, absolutely not. The wealth of the person, in the sense indicated by the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), is not what we know. Because the Companions answered by saying: “There is no one among us whose wealth is not dearer to him than the wealth of his heir.” They meant the wealth that is with the person himself and the wealth of the heir that is with the heir. But they did not understand the Messenger’s intended meaning. So here, it is necessary to clarify it. However, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) sometimes poses questions in order to draw attention, in order to make the addressee attentive.
