The Shaykh : And ruin is of two types: tangible ruin and intangible ruin. Tangible ruin is that the wealth itself is destroyed by a calamity that burns it, or it is stolen, or something similar. Intangible ruin is that its blessing is removed such that a person does not benefit from it in his life. Among this is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned when he said to his companions: : Which of you would prefer his own wealth to the wealth of Zayd, 'Amr, and Khalid, even if they were his heirs? He said: Sahih al-Bukhari 6442 : A great wisdom. Your wealth that you send ahead to Allah the Exalted and Majestic, you will find it before you on the Day of Resurrection. And the wealth of the heir is what remains after you. Who benefits from it and eats it? It is the heir. So it is the wealth of your heir. So spend your wealth in what pleases Allah. And if you spend, then Allah will replace it and spend upon you: Sahih al-Bukhari 5352 : So all these hadiths indicate that it is recommended, and likewise the verses, that it is recommended for a person to give his wealth, but according to what Allah the Exalted and Majestic has prescribed, as came in the hadith with which the author headed this chapter, that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 7316 The first: Sahih Muslim 816 : He became one who does not spend it except in what pleases Allah. This is envied, because now you find that merchants differ; some of them spend their wealth in the path of Allah, in good deeds, in works of righteousness, helping a poor person, building mosques, building schools, printing books, and the like, supporting jihad. This is one who has been empowered to spend it in the cause of truth. And some of them are empowered to spend it, may Allah protect us, in forbidden pleasures. He travels abroad and commits unlawful sexual intercourse, drinks intoxicants, plays gambling, and destroys his wealth in what angers the Lord, the Exalted and Majestic. So the one whom Allah has empowered to spend his wealth in the cause of truth is envied, because the majority of those who become wealthy become arrogant, reckless, and sinful. So if this man to whom Allah has given wealth is seen spending it in the path of Allah, he is envied. And the second: Sahih al-Bukhari 73 : Meaning knowledge. Wisdom here is knowledge, as He said, the Exalted: [An-Nisa 4:113] , Sahih al-Bukhari 7316 : He judges by it in himself, in his family, and in those who come to him for judgment, and he teaches it to the people as well. He does not limit himself to the people coming to him and saying: If they come to me, I will judge and decide. No, he judges and teaches. This is undoubtedly one who is envied for what Allah the Exalted and Majestic has given him of wisdom. And people in wisdom are divided into categories: a category to whom Allah has given wisdom, but he is stingy with it, even toward himself. He did not benefit from it in himself, he did not act upon the obedience of Allah, and he did not refrain from the disobedience of Allah. So this is a loser, may Allah protect us. And this resembles the Jews who knew the truth but were arrogant about it.
And another category to whom Allah has given wisdom, so he acted upon it in himself, but he did not benefit the servants of Allah with it. This is better than the one before him, but it is incomplete.
And another category to whom Allah has given wisdom, so he judged by it, acted upon it in himself, and taught it to the people. This is the best of the categories.
And there is a fourth category who was not given wisdom at all, so he is ignorant. And this is deprived of much good, but he is in a better state than the one who was given wisdom and did not act upon it. Because it is hoped that if he learns, he will learn and act, unlike the one to whom Allah gave knowledge and it became a calamity for him, may Allah protect us. We ask Allah the Exalted to grant us and you wisdom, beneficial knowledge, and righteous action.
Which of you would prefer his own wealth or the wealth of his heir? They said: O Messenger, none of us is there whose own wealth is not more beloved to him.
أيكم ماله أحب إليه أو مال وارثه؟ قالوا: يا رسول ما منا أحد إلاّ وماله أحب إليهSo his wealth is whatever he spends (in Allah's Cause) during his life (on good deeds) while the wealth of his heirs is whatever he leaves after his death.
فإن ماله ما قدّم ومال وارثه ما أخّرO son of Adam! Spend, and I shall spend on you.

فهو يقضي بها ويعلّمها الناسAnd another category to whom Allah has given wisdom, so he acted upon it in himself, but he did not benefit the servants of Allah with it. This is better than the one before him, but it is incomplete.
And another category to whom Allah has given wisdom, so he judged by it, acted upon it in himself, and taught it to the people. This is the best of the categories.
