The reciter: Chapter: What one advances of his wealth is his own. 'Umar ibn Hafs narrated to me, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: Al-A'mash narrated to us, saying: Ibrahim al-Taymi narrated to me from al-Harith ibn Suwayd, saying: 'Abdullah said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 6442 They said: "O Messenger of Allah, none of us is there whose own wealth he loves more than that" He said: Sahih al-Bukhari 6442.
The Shaykh : Which of you loves the wealth of his heir more than his own wealth? What is the immediate implication?
The reciter: His own wealth is dearer to him.
The Shaykh : That his own wealth is dearer to him. And for this reason they said: "O Messenger of Allah, none of us is there whose own wealth he loves more than that." He said:Sahih al-Bukhari 6442 The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke the truth. What you advance for yourself in this world is your wealth, because you will find it before you on the Day of Resurrection. And what you leave behind?
The reciter: For the heirs.
The Shaykh : Good, so your preserving it in the box, you are preserving the wealth of whom?
The reciter: The heirs.
The Shaykh : The wealth of your heir. As for your wealth, which benefits you, you did not preserve it. Therefore, a person should, to the extent possible—we ask Allah to help us with ourselves—
The reciter: Amen.
The Shaykh : Be one who spends his wealth in its right place, in its proper direction, and in every opportunity that presents itself. In any case, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: We do not want a person to spend all his wealth and remain poor, especially if his reliance on Allah is weak. But we say: spend, and He will spend upon you. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has promised, and He is the truest of speakers and the most capable of doers. He said: [Saba 34:39] Allah will surely replace for you what you have spent. Whatever we spend, He replaces it. He is the Best of Providers. If we were certain, and we hope Allah will make us certain of this true promise, none of us would lag in spending in its proper place. But sometimes negligence and doubt overtake a person. He says: "I am afraid that if I spend one riyal and I have a hundred, I will have ninety-nine, and tomorrow if I spend another riyal, I will have ninety-eight. This is a decrease." But Allah says: [Saba 34:39] And it is not necessary that the replacement comes immediately; it may come after a time. It is not necessary that it be in quantity; it may be in quality, in blessing. He blesses the person and the servant in his wealth, so that he spends and it is as if he does not spend, finding no decrease in his wealth.
Who among you considers the wealth of his heirs dearer to him than his own wealth?
أيكم مال وارثه أحب إليه من مالهSo his wealth is whatever he spends (in Allah's Cause) during his life (on good deeds) while the wealth of his heirs is whatever he leaves after his death.
