The Reciter: Chapter: Seclusion is a respite from the mixing of the wicked. Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, saying: Shu'ayb informed us from al-Zuhri, who said: 'Ata ibn Yazid told me that Abu Sa'id told him, saying: It was said, "O Messenger of Allah..." And Muhammad ibn Yusuf said: Al-Awza'i narrated to us, saying: Al-Zuhri narrated from 'Ata ibn Yazid al-Laythi from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: An Arab man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, which people are the best?" He said: Sahih al-Bukhari 6494 Al-Zubaydi, Sulayman ibn Kathir, and al-Nu'man followed him from al-Zuhri. And Ma'mar said from al-Zuhri from 'Ata or 'Abdullah from Abu Sa'id from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And Yunus, Ibn Masfir, and Yahya ibn Sa'id said from Ibn Shihab from 'Ata from some of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) says: "Seclusion is a respite from the mixing of the wicked." And he spoke the truth (may Allah have mercy on him), for seclusion is a respite if there is nothing but mixing with the people of evil. There is no doubt that rest is better than fatigue, especially fatigue in what does not please Allah (Mighty and Majestic). The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) differed on which is better: seclusion or mixing with people? Some scholars said that seclusion is better because it is safer for a person's religion. Other scholars said that mixing with people is better because of what is expected in terms of enjoining good and forbidding evil, calling to good, and so on. The correct view is that mixing with people is better, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Ibn Majah 4032Sahih (Darussalam) Unless there is evil in the mixing for a person in his religion, in which case seclusion is better, but it is temporary, meaning that when the obstacles are removed, he mixes with people, because mixing with people contains good: calling to good, enjoining good, forbidding evil, knowing the conditions of people, becoming accustomed to them, and other numerous benefits. And in seclusion, a person withdraws into himself, and perhaps in this seclusion, doors will open to him that he cannot close, such as whispers and bad thoughts, until his religion and his worldly life are lost. For this reason, al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) qualified it, saying: "a respite from the mixing of the wicked", meaning not absolutely. And the statement of those who say that seclusion is safer is questionable, because many people build safety on abandoning something, and this is an error, for abandoning something may not be safety. If it is obligatory for you to go out to people, call to good, enjoin good, and forbid evil, then seclusion is not safety; rather, seclusion becomes regret, responsibility, and waste. So abandoning something is not safety in all cases; rather, it may contain regret and blame. Then he mentioned this hadith and the disturbance in its chain, but it is a disturbance that does not harm. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: "Which people are the best?" He said: Sahih al-Bukhari 6494, and this is the best of the self, because he has mounted the peak of the camel of Islam, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Abi Dawud 2486Hasan (Al-Albani) And the second is a man in a valley of the valleys who worships his Lord and leaves people from his evil. And this is in the case of fitnah and the case of evil in the mixing of people, so seclusion in a valley of the valleys is better than mixing with people, because of the fitnah and evil in the mixing. So jihad, in its case of being obligatory or recommended, is better than seclusion, and seclusion in the case of fitnah is better than mixing. So on this basis, the hadith is qualified, meaning the generalization of his saying "in a valley of the valleys," Sahih al-Bukhari 6494 this is qualified by what? By when fitnahs become numerous. And perhaps what explains it is what was narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in his saying: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3058Sahih (Darussalam).
A man who strives for Allah's Cause with his life and property, and also a man who lives (all alone) in a mountain path among the mountain paths to worship his Lord and save the people from his evil.
