Is it valid to combine the Zuhr and 'Asr prayers for a traveler at sunset, and what is the recommended practice regarding combining them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Your Eminence, is it true that combining Zuhr and 'Asr by delaying them during travel is valid? Is the prayer valid at sunset? And what is the recommended practice for combining prayers during travel?

The Shaykh : First: It is not permissible to delay the 'Asr prayer until the sun turns yellow, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
the time of the afternoon prayer (lasts) as long as the sun does not turn pale وقت العصر ما لم تصفرَّ الشمس
Sahih Muslim 612b
This applies whether combining or not combining, whether in residence or in travel.
Second: If combining is permissible, it is only permissible within the time of permissibility, meaning it is not permissible to delay the combining until the sun turns yellow. As for the ruling on combining during travel, it is permissible, but it is better not to combine unless there is a need. The need arises when the journey becomes urgent, meaning if one is continuing in his travel, or if he arrives at the town he intends, which is not his home, and becomes tired and wants to delay the prayer until he refreshes a little, then there is no harm. In this case, that is, if the traveler needs to combine, combining is better. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would combine when his journey was urgent and would not combine when he was staying. Yes.
