How do we guide and advise the one who abandons the congregational prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : We ask your Eminence for guidance and advice regarding abandoning the congregational prayer.

The Shaykh : By Allah, my brother, my advice to those who lag behind in the prayer is that the imam should bring verses and hadiths that encourage the congregational prayer and warn against abandoning it, in general terms, giving sermons from time to time. Then, he should personally address the one he sees frequently lagging behind with private advice between them.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Huh?
There is no harm in this, provided that among these people are those who give sincere advice, not public exposure. Because some people say, "We did this and that, and we went to so-and-so and said to him..." This is not permissible, unless they say it to a person who can discipline him, such as saying it to the one in authority who is able to discipline him. However, exposing a person's fault among the people is not permissible, because the person does not benefit, neither the one speaking about him nor the one being spoken about. So, if, for example, four or five active, advising brothers gather, whose words and advice a person can be convinced by, that is good, on the condition that they are, as I said, advisors, not those who expose faults. And Allah knows best, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
