Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling in the Shari'ah regarding greeting women who are not mahrams, kissing, and entering the homes of paternal uncles, and for example the daughters of maternal uncles and paternal uncles, and all my relatives? And we say that we are in a society that does not follow the Shari'ah of Allah, and entering these homes with the intention of good and good admonition, and enjoining the calling of family and relatives to inform them and forbid them from what harms them in their religion. Give us a ruling, may Allah guide you?

The Shaykh : Looking, there is no harm in it, as it appears generally, such as the face and the hands and the feet and the like, and greeting them, meaning the mahrams, and shaking their hands, there is no harm in it. As for kissing, it should not be done except for the wife, and likewise the mother kisses her head and forehead and the like. As for those who are not mahrams, looking at them is not permissible, and shaking their hands is more severe than looking. For this reason, it is not permissible for a man to shake hands with a woman who is a stranger to him, such as a paternal aunt, a maternal aunt, or a maternal uncle's daughter, and the like, because it is not permissible for him to look at her, and touching is more severe than looking.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And it is the greatest fitnah (trial). As for entering upon them without khalwah (seclusion), meaning those who are not mahrams, those who are not mahrams without khalwah, there is no harm in it, but on the condition that they are wearing hijab and are not wearing perfume, and that fitnah is averted. And if that is accompanied by the benefit of da'wah (calling to Islam) and clarifying the religion, then that is better.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
