A man who catches the tashahhud on Friday: is it obligatory for him to complete the prayer with four rak'ahs?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : His EminenceThe Shaykh : What should the ma'mum do on Friday if he arrives at the prayer while the imam is in the final tashahhud? Does he make up the prayer with four rak'ahs, or does he pray two?

The Shaykh : If a person arrives while the imam is in the final tashahhud on Friday, he has missed the Jumu'ah prayer. He joins the imam and prays Zuhr, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever catches a raka of the prayer has caught the prayer. من أدرك ركعة من الصلاة فقد أدرك الصلاة
Muwatta Malik 1:15
The implication of this is that one who catches less than that has not caught the prayer. It is also narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
It was narrated from Salim, from his father, that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Whoever catches up with with a Rak'ah of Jumu'ah من أدرك ركعة من الجمعة فليضف إليها أخرى
Sunan an-Nasa'i 557
because he caught it. If the question in your mind right now is that this man caught the imam on Friday in the final tashahhud and prayed two rak'ahs, then tell him: it is obligatory for him now to repeat it as Zuhr with four rak'ahs.
