Benefits of the Hadith: (… She said: “Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, made standing in night prayer obligatory in the beginning of this surah, so the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions stood in night prayer for a year, and Allah withheld its conclusion for twelve months in the heavens until Allah revealed the easing in the end of this surah, so standing in night prayer became voluntary after being obligatory”)

The Shaykh : Then she mentioned that Allah the Exalted made standing in night prayer obligatory for this Ummah, then He abrogated it. In this is evidence for the establishment of abrogation, and that it can occur in a single form. Abrogation is transferring a ruling to another ruling by evidence from the Book and the Sunnah. It is divided into multiple divisions: sometimes it is abrogation of the ruling without the wording, sometimes of the wording without the ruling, and sometimes of both the wording and the ruling. These are three categories. Sometimes it is to a lighter substitute, sometimes to an equal substitute, sometimes to a heavier substitute, and sometimes to no substitute. All of this is according to what the wisdom of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, requires. As for abrogation to no substitute, we give an example: abrogation to no substitute.
The student: The qunut, according to the opinion of some of them.

The Shaykh : What?
The student: According to the opinion of some of them, the qunut.

The Shaykh : Qunut?
The student: The qunut of Fajr… was abrogated.

The Shaykh : No, no, this is not correct, the same one that is with us now.
The student: His saying…

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: … those who believed to…

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: These were abrogated to no substitute.

The Shaykh : To no substitute, and some scholars say these were abrogated to a substitute because He said
Then when you do not and Allah has forgiven you, then [at least] establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger
[Al-Mujadila 58:13]
, what was abrogated to a lighter substitute?
The student: … His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He,
Now, Allah has lightened [the hardship] for you, and He knows that among you is weakness.
[Al-Anfal 8:66]
.

The Shaykh : What is it?
The student: From the two hundred…

The Shaykh : In enduring the enemy.
The student: Enduring the enemy.

The Shaykh : Allah made it obligatory for one person to endure ten, then He abrogated it to enduring two. And from that also in fasting, if a man prayed 'Isha' or slept, even before 'Isha', he was required to abstain until the next day, until the sunset of the next day. That was abrogated, and it was made easier, so a person eats and drinks until the dawn appears, then he fasts until sunset.
Abrogation to an equal substitute?
The student: The qiblah.

The Shaykh : The qiblah was abrogated from what?
The student: … the Ka'bah.

The Shaykh : Yes, from the House of the Sacred to the Ka'bah, and it is equal for the one obligated, whether this or that. So abrogation is established by the Qur'an and the Sunnah and has occurred, contrary to those who denied it and said that abrogation is not possible, because Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says
None can alter His words
[Al-An'am 6:115]
and abrogation is changing, but he erred because his saying
None can alter His words
[Al-An'am 6:115]
means that no one changes them, but if He, Glorified and Exalted is He, changes them, Allah the Exalted said
And when We substitute a verse in place of a verse - and Allah is most knowing of what He sends down - they say, "You, [O Muhammad], are but an inventor [of lies]."
[An-Nahl 16:101]
.
Then he asked her about the witr, and it is also derived from this that it is permissible to ask about the general and to ask about the specific. And she mentioned, may Allah be pleased with her, how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform the witr, and she said:
We used to prepare his siwak and water for purification
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1315Sahih (Darussalam)
So what?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh :
He would send him, Allah the Exalted, whenever He willed
, we read it, read, O Khalid.
