The questioner : He says, “I was working for a person, and one day I was lying down, and while I was lying down I slept. He says, ‘I woke up in a state of major ritual impurity,’ and the person I work for sent me a copy of the Qur'an, and I took the Qur'an out before I performed the full ritual bath. Is there a sin on me?”

The Shaykh : “Took out” means you removed the cover?

The questioner : Yes, “took out” means I removed it. And what should I do? Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : There is no blame on you for carrying the Qur'an while in a state of major ritual impurity, because this is not prohibited by the Shari'ah. However, it is recommended for a person to hasten to perform the full ritual bath from major ritual impurity so that he is in a state of ritual purity. If that is not possible for him, let him perform the ablution for prayer so that he attains minor ritual purity; this is what is better.
