The reader: Isma'il ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, al-Walid ibn Muslim informed us, from al-Awza'i, who said: Yahya ibn Abi Kathir narrated to me, Abu Salama ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to me, Abu Hurayrah narrated to me, saying:
While 'Umar ibn al-Khattab was delivering the sermon to the people on Friday, Uthman ibn 'Affan entered, and 'Umar addressed him, saying: What is the matter with men who delay after the call to prayer? Uthman said: O Commander of the Faithful, when I heard the call, I did nothing but perform wudu' and then came. 'Umar said: Even wudu'? Have you not heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: When one of you comes to the Friday prayer, let him perform ghusl.
بينما عمر بن الخطاب يخطب الناس يوم الجمعة إذ دخل عثمان بن عفان فعرض به عمر فقال ما بال رجال يتأخرون بعد النداء فقال عثمان يا أمير المؤمنين ما زدت حين سمعت النداء أن توضأت ثم أقبلت فقال عمر والوضوء أيضاً ألم تسمعوا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: إذا جاء أحدكم إلى الجمعة فليغتسل
