The reciter: And Ishaq ibn Ibrahim and Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, both from 'Abd al-A'la. Ibn al-Muthanna said: 'Abd al-A'la, who is Abu Hammam, narrated to us from Dawud from 'Amr ibn Sa'id from Sa'id ibn Jubayr from Ibn 'Abbas: Sahih Muslim 868.

The Shaykh : What we have explained, we will explain it, if Allah wills.
He says:Sahih Muslim 867a Is this the first context? Sahih Muslim 867a "The best of guidance" means the path, the Sunnah, the methodology, and the practice. "The guidance of Muhammad" means the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
: "Amur" is the plural of "amr," meaning matters. The intended meaning here is religious matters. As for worldly matters, their innovations may contain good, and they may contain evil. But for religious matters, their evil lies in their innovations, meaning what people have introduced. Innovations in religion are either in creed, or in speech, or in action. All of these have occurred in the Ummah. In creed, events occurred revolving around two great innovations: tashbih (likening Allah to creation) and ta'til (denial of the divine attributes). The Mushabbihah (those who liken) introduced this path and said: "We affirm what Allah has affirmed for Himself, but with likening." The Mu'tatilah (those who deny) followed another path; they were at the opposite extreme from these Mushabbihah. The categories of the Mu'tatilah are known to scholars, so there is no need to mention them.
Likewise, in actions, some people have introduced dhikr and supplications that are all innovations. Some have not introduced new dhikr or supplications, but they placed them in the wrong context, giving them occasions that are not prescribed by the Shari'ah. It is well known that worship does not conform to the Shari'ah unless it conforms to the Shari'ah in six matters, which we have explained previously: that it conforms to the Shari'ah in its cause, its type, its amount, its manner, its time, and its place. If it does not conform to the Shari'ah in these, it is a bid'ah (religious innovation). Therefore, if someone were to innovate sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) by saying, "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad," every time he looks at the sky, this would be a bid'ah that is forbidden, even though sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in its essence is not a bid'ah, but is among the best of acts of worship. Similarly, if someone were to say, "There is no god but Allah," every time he sees something, this is among the innovations. But if he says it when he sees something to remember Allah (Mighty and Majestic), this is among the reflection on the creation of the heavens and the earth, and there is no harm in remembering Allah at that time. As for actions, likewise, there are people who have introduced into the religion of Allah what is not part of it in terms of actions, such as movements in prayer, for example, or the manner of placing the hands during standing, bowing, or prostration, contrary to what the Sunnah has brought.
The important point is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) meant by "the worst of matters" the religious matters. Therefore, we define bid'ah (religious innovation) as: "Worshipping Allah the Exalted with what He has not prescribed, in creed, speech, or action"
The word "sharr" (worst) is a superlative noun, but its hamzah was omitted for ease of pronunciation due to frequent usage, just like "khayr" (best).
He said:: "Every bid'ah is misguidance." Let us look at who this statement came from...
Ibn 'Abbas reported: Dimad came to Mecca and he belonged to the tribe of Azd Shanu'a, and he used to protect the person who was under the influence of charm. He heard the foolish people of Mecca say that Muhammad (ﷺ) was under the spell. Upon this he said: If I were to come across this man, Allah might cure him at my hand. He met him and said: Muhammad, I can protect (one) who is under the influence of charm, and Allah cures one whom He so desires at my hand. Do you desire (this)? Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Praise is due to Allah, we praise Him, ask His help; and he whom Allah guides aright there is none to lead him astray, and he who is led astray there is none to guide him, and I bear testimony to the fact that there is no god but Allah, He is One, having no partner with Him, and that Muhammad is His Servant and Messenger. Now after this he (Dimad) said: Repeat these words of yours before me, and the messenger of Allah (ﷺ) repeated these to him thrice; and he said I have heard the words of soothsayers and the words of magicians, and the words of poets, but I have never heard such words as yours, and they reach the depth (of the ocean of eloquence) ; bring forth your hand so that I should take oath of fealty to you on Islam. So he took an oath of allegiance to him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: It (this allegiance of yours) is on behalf of your people too. He said: It is on behalf of my people too. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent an expedition and the flying column passed by his people. The leader of the flying column said to the detachment: Did you find anything from these people? One of the people said: I found a utensil for water. Upon this he (the commander) said: Return it, for he is one of the people of Dimad.
