The questioner : Is it permissible to perform 'Umrah after the rites of Hajj and before the farewell tawaf, given that I intended only Hajj, and then later intended 'Umrah and entered the state of ihram for 'Umrah from Jeddah? Please inform us, may Allah guide you?

The Shaykh : Performing 'Umrah after Hajj, if it happens as it happened to 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), when she entered the state of ihram for 'Umrah and then menstruated before reaching Makkah.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered her to enter the state of ihram for Hajj, and she did so. After the completion of Hajj, she asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to perform 'Umrah, so he ordered her brother, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr, to take her out to al-Tan'īm, and she entered the state of ihram from there.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : If a woman experiences what happened to the Mother of the Believers, 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she is not at peace unless she performs 'Umrah after Hajj, then there is nothing wrong with this, as the Sunnah has come down regarding it. As for anyone else, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions did not perform 'Umrah after completing Hajj. Indeed, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr was accompanying his sister and going out to al-Tan'īm, yet he did not perform 'Umrah. If performing 'Umrah after Hajj had been among the prescribed matters, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr would have done it, as it was easy for him.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Since he had gone with his sister to al-Tan'īm, this is evidence that it is not prescribed for the pilgrim to perform 'Umrah after Hajj, unless he returns to his homeland and then performs it from his homeland. For example, if he is from Jeddah, when Hajj is finished, he goes out to Jeddah and then returns having entered the state of ihram for Hajj; in this case, there is no harm for him, because he performed 'Umrah from his homeland. Yes.

The questioner : Also, the listener says: Mashhur Sa'id from Jizan.
