The questioner : He also has a third question, asking: What is the ruling on one who repented from one of the major sins and pledged to Allah, by His Book and before His Sacred House, the Ka'bah, that he would not return to that sin, but then his self betrayed him, and Satan the accursed one mocked him, and he returned to that sin? Then he remembered, regretted, and felt remorse. What is his ruling? Does he owe an expiation? Does he have a repentance? Please inform us. May Allah reward you with the best reward for us?

The Shaykh : If his self betrayed him and then he remembered and regretted, he should repent to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and seek forgiveness for this sin.

The Shaykh : He must perform the expiation for a broken oath because he did not fulfill the vow he pledged to Allah. So, he owes the expiation for a broken oath in addition to repentance and seeking forgiveness.
