Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to a message sent to the program by one of our brother listeners, who indicated his name with the letters (Q. M. 'A). We presented some of his questions in a previous episode, and in this episode he asks Your Eminence, saying: I vowed to Allah that I would abandon a sin I was committing, so I stayed away from it, then I returned to it. What is required of me?
May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
It is obligatory for you to repent to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He); because sin must be abandoned, and one must guard against it, and the believer must fulfill the covenant. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said:[17:34] And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us that among the characteristics of the people of hypocrisy is that when they make a covenant, they betray it. So it is obligatory for you to repent to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), to guard against this sin, and not to return to it. And Allah accepts the repentance of those who repent. He (Glorified and Exalted is He) says:[24:31] So whoever commits a sin, it is obligatory for him to repent to Allah from it: by feeling regret for the past, and making a sincere resolve not to return to it, along with abandoning it, leaving it, and guarding against it; out of fear of Allah, and magnifying Him (Mighty and Majestic), and being sincere to Him (Exalted and Majestic is He). The greatest of these is shirk (associating partners with Allah), which is the greatest of sins. And whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance.and being sincere to Him (Exalted and Majestic is He). The greatest of these is shirk (associating partners with Allah), which is the greatest of sins. And whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance.
Such are the sins: zina (unlawful sexual intercourse), drinking intoxicants, undutifulness to parents, consuming riba (usury or interest), and the like. It is obligatory to repent to Allah from these, with a correct repentance that fulfills the conditions. That is by feeling sincere regret for the past, and sorrow for what has passed. The second condition is abandoning it and guarding against it. The third condition is making a sincere resolve not to return to it. By doing so, it is erased from you and forgiven for you; by the grace of Allah .
And if the sin involves the rights of created beings: such as theft, usurpation, or injustice regarding honor; then it is necessary to seek their forgiveness, or give them their right. You give the created being his right, or you seek his forgiveness, saying to him: "Forgive me," or you give him his right. If he forgives you; the right is dropped, or if you gave him his right; the right is dropped along with repentance and regret. Except for what concerns honor, if it is not possible to seek his forgiveness; because you fear that if you informed him, a great harm would occur. In that case, you seek forgiveness for him, you make du'a' (supplication) for him, you mention the good qualities you know about him, you mention his good characteristics that you know about him in the gatherings where you backbit him. This for that, you mention his good qualities, his good characteristics in the gatherings where the backbiting took place. Yes.
