The Book of Friday Prayer, the Two Festivals, the Prayer for Rain, the Eclipse Prayer, and Funerals-04b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Dawud ibn Rushayd narrated to us, al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, from al-Awza'i, Ishaq ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Talhah narrated to me, from Anas ibn Malik, who said:
A year of drought struck the people during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). While the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon to the people on the pulpit on Friday, a Bedouin stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, the wealth has perished, the families are hungry, and he narrated the hadith with its meaning. In it, he said: O Allah, [rain] around us, not upon us. He said: He did not point his hand in any direction except that it parted, until I saw the city like a hollow. The Wadi Qanah flowed for a month, and no one came from any direction except that he reported abundant rain.

The Shaykh : This is like the first one, with a slight difference. It states that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was pointing to the directions. He did not point his hand in any direction except that it parted, until he said: I saw the city like a hollow, meaning a circular gap. The clouds were circular over them, and above the city there was a gap where there were no clouds, so it did not rain by the permission of the Lord (Mighty and Majestic). And he said: The Wadi Qanah flowed for a month. The wadi is known now in the city; it is a large wadi, and some people know it by this name today. It flowed for a month, meaning it continued to flow for a full month. This indicates that Allah answered the prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the rains fell on the hills, the slopes, the bottoms of the valleys, and the places where trees grow.
