Explanation of the Book of Friday and the Two Festivals-04b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Ibrahim ibn al-Mundhir narrated to us, Al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, Abu 'Amr al-A'zari narrated to us, Ishaq ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Talhah narrated to me from Anas ibn Malik, who said:
Anas said: The people were afflicted by famine in the time of God's messenger, and while the Prophet was preaching on a Friday a nomadic Arab got up and said, "The animals are perishing and the children are hungry, so make supplication to God for us." He then raised his hands, and we could not see a speck of cloud in the sky, but I swear by Him in whose hand my soul is that he had not lowered his hand before the clouds were appearing like mountains and before he descended from his pulpit, I saw the rain coming down on his beard. We had rain that day, the next, the following day, and on till the next Friday. Then that nomadic Arab or someone else got up and said, "Messenger of God, the buildings are being broken down and the animals are being drowned, so make supplication to God for us." He then raised his hands and said, "O God, round about us, but not on us." Then he did not point to any region in the clouds without their breaking up, and Medina became like a gap[*]. The wadi had a channel flowing in it for a month, and no one came from any region without speaking of plenty.

The Shaykh : This means the rain. We have previously discussed this, and we have explained that it contains signs from the signs of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and from the signs of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), when he pointed his hand to a side of the sky, did not intend to direct the clouds, for that is in the hands of Allah. Rather, he intended to direct the people to the fact that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was pointing "around us," meaning like this and like this, but he did not point to any side except that it parted by the permission of Allah the Exalted, for everything is in the hand of Allah.
Now, regarding the wealth in the first question, what was it? It was the livestock. And in the second? It appears to be the crops. The drowning of the wealth appears to refer to the crops, and that the second questioner was from the people of the town, based on his statement that the buildings collapsed and the wealth was drowned. For the drowning of the wealth means the livestock drowned, and while this is possible, the fact that he coupled it with the collapsing of the buildings indicates that the intended meaning of "wealth" is the crops. Yes.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : The prayer for rain, if Allah wills, is at seven o'clock and five minutes. Is this a scientific question or something else? The lesson is over.
