The reciter: Sufyan ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Hafs ibn Maysarah narrated to us, Zayd ibn Aslam narrated to me, from Ata ibn Yasar, from Ibn Abbas, who said:
The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed with the people. He stood in a long standing, the length of approximately Surat al-Baqarah, then he bowed in a long bowing, then he raised his head and stood in a long standing, which was shorter than the first standing, then he bowed in a long bowing, which was shorter than the first bowing, then he prostrated, then he stood in a long standing, which was shorter than the first standing, then he bowed in a long bowing, which was shorter than the first bowing, then he raised his head and stood in a long standing, which was shorter than the first standing, then he bowed in a long bowing, which was shorter than the first bowing, then he prostrated, then he finished the prayer and the sun had cleared. He said: "Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse for the death of anyone or for his life. So when you see that, remember Allah." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we saw you reach for something in this position of yours, then we saw you hold back." He said: "I saw Paradise, so I reached for a cluster of grapes from it. Had I taken it, you would have eaten from it as long as the world remains. And I saw the Fire, and I have never seen a sight like today. And I saw that most of its people are women." They said: "For what, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "For their disbelief." It was said: "Do they disbelieve in Allah?" He said: "For the disbelief of their husbands and the disbelief of kindness. If you were kind to one of them for a lifetime, then she saw something from you, she would say: 'I have never seen any good from you.'"
