The reciter: And Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna al-'Anazi narrated to us, and Muhammad ibn Jahdam narrated to us, and Isma'il, who is Ibn Ja'far, narrated to us from 'Umarah, meaning Ibn Ghaziyyah, from Sa'id ibn al-Harith ibn al-Mu'alli, from Abdullah ibn 'Umar, that he said: Sahih Muslim 925
The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest! In this is evidence for the recommendation of visiting the sick, and offering the visit to those present so that they accompany the visitor, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
And in it is also the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) affection for his companions and his inquiry about them. Thus, it is befitting for a person who is a leader among the people to be eager for his companions, to inquire about them, and to seek out their conditions.
And in it is also the humility of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) where he said:, for this is part of his humility, may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him. And in it is what the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were of, in terms of their passion for life and their poverty. He says: Sahih Muslim 925, what is on them? Just shirts and cloaks! And yet they walk in these muddy paths, the muddy paths of Madinah, in order to visit a sick person. So in this is evidence that a person may visit the sick even if the place is far, and even if there is some hardship involved.
And in it is also evidence for honoring the guest, and that it is befitting to clear the space for him, because the companions of Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with them) stood up from around him and left the space for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and those with him. And Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah, as you know, is the master of the Khazraj, and the Khazraj are the larger tribe and more severe in trial than the Aws, even though there are virtues in the Aws as well, but these are better.
'Abdullah b. 'Umar reported: While we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), a person, one of the Ansar, came to him and greeted him. The Ansari then turned back. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: o brother of Ansar, how is my brother Sa'd be 'Ubada? He said: He is better. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Who amongst you would visit him? He (the Holy Prophet) stood up and we also got up along with him, and we were more than ten persons. We had neither shoes with us, nor socks, nor caps, nor shirts. We walked on the barren land till we came to him. The people around him kept away till the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his Companions with him came near him (Sa'd b. 'Ubada).
The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest!
