The questioner : As for his third question, he asks: Is it permissible to seek help from other than Allah, and is it permissible to swear by other than Allah?

The Shaykh : Seeking help from other than Allah is permissible if the one from whom help is sought is capable of helping in the matter for which help is sought. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding charity:
And assisting a man to ride upon his beast, or helping him load his luggage upon it, is a Sadaqa وتعين الرجل في دابته إذ تحمله عليها أو ترفع له عليها متاعه صدقة
Sahih Muslim 1009
.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : As for seeking help from other than Allah in matters that only Allah is capable of, this is not permissible, and it is a type of shirk (associating partners with Allah). As for swearing by other than Allah, it is forbidden (haram), indeed it is a type of shirk, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who swears by anyone or anything other than Allah, has indeed committed an act of Kufr or Shirk من حلف بغير الله فقد كفر أو أشرك
Riyad as-Salihin 1711
and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
to swear by your fathers, so whoever has to take an oath, he should swear by Allah or keep quiet. لا تحلفوا بآبائكم، من كان حالفاً فليحلف بالله أو ليصمت
Sahih al-Bukhari 6646
.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
