The Book of Hajj-03b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna, and Ibn Bashshar, narrated to us. Ibn al-Muthanna said: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, and Shu'bah narrated to us from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Asbahani from 'Abdullah ibn Ma'qal, who said: I sat with Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was in the mosque, and I asked him about this verse: "Or an expiation by fasting or charity or sacrifice?" Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It was revealed concerning me. I had a skin ailment on my head, so I was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with lice falling on my face. He said: "I did not think the hardship had reached you to the extent I see. Can you find a sheep?" I said: "No." So this verse was revealed: "Or an expiation by fasting or charity or sacrifice." He said: "Fast for three days, or feed six poor people half a sa' of food for each poor person." He said: "It was revealed specifically for me, but it is general for you.".
