The reciter: Ibn Abi Umar narrated to us, he said: Sufyan narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Urwah, from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: .
The Shaykh : This hadith poses a difficulty regarding what Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The explicit meaning of this hadith is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared his intention for Hajj. It was said in its tracing that he declared his intention for Hajj because he restricted himself to the acts of Hajj, and Aisha did not know that he intended to combine them. It was also said that he entered the state of ihram for Hajj first, and then he was told: "Say 'Umrah in a Hajj," so he combined them afterwards. Based on this, those who said that it is permissible to add 'Umrah to Hajj built their argument. The well-known position among the Hanbalis is that it is not valid to add 'Umrah to Hajj. Based on this, the first view is established: that he entered the state of ihram for Hajj, meaning: he performed the acts of Hajj alone. However, this is actually a difficulty for her, as she divided the people into those who entered the state of ihram for 'Umrah and Hajj, which indicates that she understood that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the state of ihram for Hajj alone.
However, the ruling in this matter is that we say: a person is given the choice between the three types of pilgrimage: tamattu', qiran, and ifrad. Tamattu' is that one enters the state of ihram for 'Umrah, exits the state of ihram from it, and performs Hajj in the same year. Qiran is that one enters the state of ihram for both, or enters the state of ihram for 'Umrah and then adds Hajj to it, as came in the first context. As for ifrad, it is that one enters the state of ihram for Hajj alone and does not exit the state of ihram until the Day of Sacrifice.
We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: "Whoever among you wishes to declare his intention for Hajj and 'Umrah, let him do so; whoever wishes to declare his intention for Hajj, let him do so; and whoever wishes to declare his intention for 'Umrah, let him do so." Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) declared his intention for Hajj, and some people with him did the same, some people declared their intention for 'Umrah and Hajj, and some people declared their intention for 'Umrah, and I was among those who declared their intention for 'Umrah.
The Shaykh : This hadith poses a difficulty regarding what Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
I have no doubt that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was combining them! And tamattu' is more beloved to me.
لا أشك أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان قارنًا ! والمتعة أحب إليّHowever, the ruling in this matter is that we say: a person is given the choice between the three types of pilgrimage: tamattu', qiran, and ifrad.
