Was the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) 'Umrah during the months of Hajj not sufficient to invalidate the practice of the people of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, such that he would order his Companions to perform tamattu'?

The questioner : The Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) 'Umrah, which is established from him in some of the months of Hajj, such as his 'Umrah in Dhul-Qa'dah, does it invalidate this custom of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance?

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you. This is a good point, but it is not applicable. Who were the ones who performed 'Umrah with the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in the months of Hajj? We have heard that more than one thousand and four hundred did so, whereas those who performed Hajj with him were about one hundred thousand. Not all of them knew about it. And you know that communication and transportation at that time were nonexistent; there were no telephones and no airplanes.
And the whole matter is similar. Do you know the answer now?

The questioner : The hadith of Jabir that passed by us, his statement: "And we did not know of anything other than Hajj," meaning that they did not know of 'Umrah in the months of Hajj. It is well known that Jabir became a Muslim before?

The Shaykh : Correct, but considering the majority.
