What is the ruling on a young man returning the greeting to a young woman, and how is it done?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : On this occasion, O Shaykh, what do you say about a young woman returning the greeting to a young man?

The Shaykh : What we see, especially in this age of ours, is that it is not permissible, unless she is among his known relatives, such as his cousin in his home, or something similar to that, where custom has established that the danger is far off.

The questioner : And how is the greeting to be done?

The Shaykh : If the greeting is permissible, it is as Allah the Exalted said:
And when you are greeted with a greeting, greet [in return] with one better than it or [at least] return it وإذا حييتم بتحية فحيوا بأحسن منها أو ردوها
[An-Nisa 4:86]
provided there is no danger.
