The Book of Marriage, Breastfeeding, Divorce, Mutual Oath-Swearing, and Manumission-03a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu Kuraib Muhammad ibn al-Ala' narrated to us, saying: Abu Asim narrated to us. And Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, saying: I found in my book from Abu Asim, from Hisham, from his father, from A'ishah, who said:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) married me when I was six years old, and I was admitted to his house at the age of nine. She further said: We went to Medina and I had an attack of fever for a month, and my hair had come down to the earlobes. Umm Ruman (my mother) came to me and I was at that time on a swing along with my playmates. She called me loudly and I went to her and I did not know what she had wanted of me. She took hold of my hand and took me to the door, and I was saying: Ha, ha (as if I was gasping), until the agitation of my heart was over. She took me to a house, where had gathered the women of the Ansar. They all blessed me and wished me good luck and said: May you have share in good. She (my mother) entrusted me to them. They washed my head and embellished me and nothing frightened me. Allah's Messenger (, may peace be upon him) came there in the morning, and I was entrusted to him.

The Shaykh : His statement, may Allah have mercy on him, "Chapter," the compiler's statement "Chapter on the marriage of a father to a young virgin," means: is it permissible or not? This hadith indicates that it is permissible, because Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) married his daughter A'ishah when she was six years old, a young girl. But it seems she was willing or not? Yes, she was willing without a doubt. Now, let us look at the hadith. She said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married me when I was six years old." The letter "lam" indicates timing, so it is like His saying, the Exalted:
Establish prayer at the decline of the sun أقم الصلاة لدلوك الشمس
meaning at this time. "Married me when I was six years old, and consummated the marriage with me when I was nine years old," meaning he remained for three years as her husband without entering upon her. She said, "We arrived in Madinah, and I fell ill for a month, and my hair grew out in a way that it became frizzy," meaning it seemed as if something of her hair had torn, and it became short and weak. "Then Umm Ruman came to me," and she is her mother, "and she took my hand." Yes, "Umm Ruman came to me while I was on a swing with my companions, and she called out to me." A swing means a game played by children, because she was a young girl of nine years old, playing with the girls, and I had my companions with me. She called out to me, so I went to her, meaning she called me with a raised voice, and I did not know what she wanted from me. She took my hand and stood me at the door. I said, "Heh, heh," until I fainted. Or is it "my soul" in your dialect? "My soul" means she was startled, may Allah be pleased with her. She screamed at her and took her hand, and it seemed as if she did not speak to her until she stood her at the door. So she said, "Heh, heh," meaning her soul was agitated. Then she brought me into a house, and there were women from the Ansar, who said, "May it be for good and blessing, and for a good omen." This is one of the known congratulations among the Arabs. There is another congratulation, which is "May Allah bless you both and bring you together in goodness." If a person says the second one, it is better, and if he says what is appropriate, there is no harm. Then they entrusted me to them, and they washed my hair and groomed me. Then I was not aware of anything until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came at midday, and they entrusted me to him.
