The reciter: Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-'A'la narrated to us, and al-Mu'tamir narrated to us, saying: I heard my father narrate from Abu Nudrah from Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah, who said: Abu Nudrah said: This was a phrase the Muslims used to say: "Do such and such, and may Allah forgive you."
The Shaykh : This refers to the phrase "may Allah forgive you." As for the phrase "it is yours," the apparent meaning, and Allah knows best, is that this was after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him to sell it, in order to align with the other narrations. It is also possible that Jabir intended to gift it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to take it for a price rather than as a gift.
We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I was riding a she-camel that was among the last of the people. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) struck it, or he said: he pricked it, I think with something he had with him. He said: After that, it began to move ahead of the people, competing with me, until I was holding it back. He said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Will you sell it to me for such and such, and may Allah forgive you?" I said: "It is yours, O Prophet of Allah." He said: "Will you sell it to me for such and such, and may Allah forgive you?" I said: "It is yours, O Prophet of Allah." He also said to me: "Have you married after your father?" I said: "Yes." He said: "A widow or a virgin?" I said: "A widow." He said: "Why did you not marry a virgin who would laugh with you and you with her, and play with you and you with her."
The Shaykh : This refers to the phrase "may Allah forgive you."
