The questioner : Also, from the female listener and sender, Samira Bakheet al-Muta'ib, who says in her letter: "Is it permissible to give charity to the poor people present in the Sacred House of Allah, because I heard that charity is not permissible in the Sacred House of Allah? We ask for your guidance, may Allah guide you?" She also objects, saying that it is a place for worship only.

The Shaykh : Giving charity in the Sacred Mosque and in other places is permissible. It is well known that the scholars say "a good deed is multiplied in a noble place". However, the matter that concerns a person is whether these poor people who display poverty are truly poor; that is what is difficult for a person to determine. But if a person is convinced in his mind that this person is poor and gives to him, the charity is accepted, even if it is later found out that he is rich, based on the hadith that was reported regarding this. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with giving charity to these people, even in the Sacred Mosque.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Unless it is known that there is harm in doing so, and that giving to them leads to their increasing in number and bothering people in the Sacred Mosque. In that case, it is appropriate to say that they should not be given, because of the cause that leads to this prohibited matter.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
