The Reader: Chapter on the obligation of narrating from the trustworthy, abandoning the liars, and warning against lying about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)
Know, may Allah guide you to success, that it is obligatory for everyone who knows the difference between authentic and defective narrations, and between the trustworthy transmitters and the accused, to narrate only what he knows to be sound in its origins and whose transmitters are trustworthy, and to avoid what comes from the accused and the obstinate among the people of innovation. The evidence that what we have stated is the necessary ruling, and not what contradicts it, is the saying of Allah, Glorious is His mention:[Al-Hujurat 49:6], and He, Exalted is His praise, said: [Al-Baqarah 2:282], and He, Mighty and Majestic, said: [At-Talaq 65:2]. This is the famous report from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): Riyad as-Salihin 1548
