The reciter: And Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Qahzad, from the people of Merv, told me, saying: Ali ibn Husayn ibn Waqid informed me, saying: 'Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak said: I said: "to Sufyan al-Thawri, 'Ibn 'Abbad ibn Kathir is someone whose condition you know, and when he narrates, he brings forth something great. Do you think I should tell the people not to take from him?' Sufyan said, 'Yes.' 'Abd Allah said, 'So whenever I was in a gathering where 'Abbad was mentioned, I would praise him in his religion and say, 'Do not take from him.''" And Muhammad said: 'Abd Allah ibn Uthman narrated to us, saying: My father said: 'Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak said: "I reached Shu'bah, and he said, 'This is 'Abbad ibn Kathir, so beware of him.'"
