Explanation of the author's statement: ". . . . Tahrif: Linguistically, tahrif means change.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : To tahrif a thing means to change it. From this comes "I tahrifed the animal," meaning I turned it away from its direction of travel. In technical usage, it is changing the text in wording or meaning. This tahrif is changing the text in wording or meaning.
If someone says
The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established. الرحمن على العرش استوى
[Taha 20:5]
meaning "he took control," reading it as "istawa" (He rose above), yes, that is correct, but he says its meaning is "he took control." This is semantic tahrif because it is a change of meaning only. And if a reader reads
And Allah spoke to Moses directly وكلم الله موسى تكليما

And if someone says
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds - الحمد للهُ رب العالمين
[Al-Fatihah 1:2]
this is verbal tahrif, and all of this is mentioned here. He says, "And verbal tahrif, the change in wording, may or may not change the meaning. Thus, there are three categories. Verbal tahrif where the meaning changes, such as some people's alteration of the saying of Allah the Exalted
And Allah spoke to Moses directly وكلم الله موسى تكليما
to the accusative case of the Divine Name, so that the speaking would be from Moses. Who altered this? Those who deny speech. All the sects that deny that Allah speaks alter this, saying "And Allah spoke to Moses directly." Who becomes the speaker? Moses. He is the doer. And they were able to say that because Moses is a defective noun with an alif, so the vowel movement does not appear on it. It is said that some of the people of tahrif from the Jahmiyyah or the Mu'tazilah said "And Allah spoke to Moses directly." Then a man from the people of the Sunnah asked him, "What do you say about the saying of Allah the Exalted
And when Moses arrived at Our appointed time and his Lord spoke to him ولما جاء موسى لميقاتنا وكلمه ربه
[Al-A'raf 7:143]
?" So the one who tahrifed was confounded. Can he tahrif now? The pronoun in "spoke to Him" is an accusative pronoun; it cannot accept anything else. "Spoke to Him" means "spoke to Moses." He did not say "spoke to his Lord." He cannot now delete the pronoun, nor can he change it from its meaning, because this pronoun is an accusative pronoun that cannot accept being a nominative pronoun. Yes, so he was confounded. By Allah, I cannot say anything about this. Yes, this is verbal and semantic tahrif: "And Allah spoke to Moses directly."
