Reading from the author's words with commentary and collation of manuscripts: "And we will mention, if Allah wills, that imitating them in their festivals is among the forbidden matters

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon His servant and messenger, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
As for what follows: The Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said in the book *Iqtida' al-Sirat al-Mustaqim*: "And we will mention, if Allah wills, that imitating them in their festivals is among the forbidden matters, for that is the specific issue intended, and the other issues are only".

The Shaykh : What?
The student: The specific issue here

The Shaykh : What is it in our view... omitting it does no harm
The reader: "And the other issues were only brought in to establish the great, highly beneficial general rule. And Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said".

The Shaykh : He said "Allah" without a waw. He said "Allah" is better. Yes, yes, better.
The reader: "Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:
(67) The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of one another. They enjoin what is wrong and forbid what is right and close their hands. They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them [accordingly]. Indeed, the hypocrites - it is they who are the defiantly disobedient. (68) Allah has promised the hypocrite men and hypocrite women and the disbelievers the fire of Hell, wherein they will abide eternally. It is sufficient for them. And Allah has cursed them, and for them is an enduring punishment. (69) [You disbelievers are] like those before you; they were stronger than you in power and more abundant in wealth and children. They enjoyed their portion [of worldly enjoyment], and you have enjoyed your portion as those before you enjoyed their portion, and you have engaged [in vanities] like that in which they engaged. [It is] those whose deeds have become worthless in this world and in the Hereafter, and it is they who are the losers. (70) Has there not reached them the news of those before them - the people of Noah and [the tribes of] 'Aad and Thamud and the people of Abraham and the companions of Madyan and the towns overturned? Their messengers came to them with clear proofs. And Allah would never have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves. (71) The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger. Those - Allah will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. (72) Allah has promised the believing men and believing women gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and pleasant dwellings in gardens of perpetual residence; but approval from Allah is greater. It is that which is the great attainment. (73) O Prophet, fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination.
[At-Tawbah 9:67-73]
Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, explained in these verses the morals and characteristics of the hypocrites and the morals and characteristics of the believers. Both groups display Islam. He promised the hypocrites who display Islam with these morals, and the disbelievers who display disbelief, the Fire of Jahannam, and He commanded His Prophet to fight both groups. Since Allah sent Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and he migrated to Madinah, people became three categories: a believer, a hypocrite, and a disbeliever. As for the disbeliever, who displays disbelief, his case is clear. The purpose here is related to the characteristics of the hypocrites mentioned in the Book and the Sunnah, for they are the ones feared for the people of the Qiblah. So Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, described the hypocrites as being of one another, and He said of the believers:
They are [in fact] allies of one another بعضهم أولياء بعض
[Al-Ma'idah 5:51]
This is because the hearts and deeds of the hypocrites are similar, and they, despite that:
You think they are together, but their hearts are diverse تحسبهم جميعا وقلوبهم شتى
[Al-Hashr 59:14]
Their hearts are not affectionate or united, except as long as the purpose they aim for is shared among them, then some of them abandon some. Unlike the believer, who loves the believer and supports him in his absence, even if their homes are far apart and time separates them"
.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
This is a clear difference between the hypocrites, who are of one another, but there is no alliance of some over some; rather, they are enemies in their hearts except for the purpose on which they agree. Then, the hypocrites do not support one another, whereas the believers are allies who support one another in their absence and presence. This is a difference. Accordingly, it is obligatory for a person to look into himself: is he supporting his brother in his absence and presence, or is he not supporting him except in his presence, and then eating his flesh in his absence? If so, he is similar to the hypocrites and far from the believers, for the believers are allies of one another, defending one another, excusing one another, seeking excuses for one another, and not wishing for anything to befall one another. As for the hypocrites, they are the opposite. So search your heart: are you among these or among those? Are you an ally to your brother, supporting him and wishing that no evil touches him, or the opposite? Yes.
