Some of the characteristics of the hypocrites from Surat al-Munafiqun. Allah the Exalted said: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Allah the Mighty and Majestic says:
When the hypocrites come to you, [O Muhammad], they say, "We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah."
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
So who are the hypocrites?
The hypocrites are those who display Islam outwardly while concealing disbelief inwardly. When did hypocrisy appear in the Muslim community? It appeared after the Battle of Badr, when Allah gave victory to His awliya (close friends of Allah) and His party, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), his family, and his Companions. The hypocrite is the most cowardly of people, the most humble of people, and the most fearful of people. For this reason, he appears to be a Muslim while he is a disbeliever
(8) And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day," but they are not believers. (9) They [think to] deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not.
[Al-Baqarah 2:8-9]
.
they say, "We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah."
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
Do they bear witness that there is no god but Allah? No, they do not
when they stand for prayer, they stand lazily, showing [themselves to] the people and not remembering Allah except a little,
[An-Nisa 4:142]
. Rather, they say, "There is no god but Allah," and they come to the Messenger (may Allah praise him and grant him peace) to bear witness that he is the Messenger of Allah. But Allah said:
And Allah knows that you are His Messenger, and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars. (2) They have taken their oaths as a cover, so they averted [people] from the way of Allah. Indeed, it was evil that they were doing.
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1-2]
And every person who appears to be pious and a believer, while in reality he is the opposite, is similar to the hypocrites, if not one of the hypocrites.
Second: Allah the Mighty and Majestic says:
And when you see them, their forms please you, and if they speak, you listen to their speech
[Al-Munafiqun 63:4]

The appearance is a good appearance. The appearance is a good appearance. When you see them, their bodies please you. They have an appearance of humility, but it is outward humility; composure and intelligence. When you see them, their bodies please you. This is good conduct, good demeanor, and good appearance. Good speech
and if they speak, you listen to their speech
[Al-Munafiqun 63:4]
, because their speech is eloquent and their expression is fluent. But they are like wood propped up. Wood has a strong and fresh appearance, but it does not stand on its own. If you place a piece of wood, does it stand? Answer, everyone. It never stands. It does not stand unless you dig a hole for it, or give it a support, or lean it against a wall. These hypocrites never stand on their own feet, because they have no firm footing. Rather, they are like propped-up wood. And among their humiliation is that
They think that every shout is against them.
They have a bad opinion of every statement, because they are people of bad opinion. They think that every shout is against them
They are the enemy, so beware of them.
[Al-Munafiqun 63:4]
. Regarding the disbelievers, Allah said about them:
O you who have believed, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies
[Al-Mumtahanah 60:1]
. But regarding these, He said:
They are the enemy, so beware of them.
[Al-Munafiqun 63:4]
. And the phrase
They are the enemy
is a phrase of the brother.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Is it a nominal sentence or a verbal sentence?
The student: Nominal.

The Shaykh : What are the two pillars of a nominal sentence? Okay, what is it composed of? Of a verb and a subject? From where?
The student: Of a subject (mubtada') and a predicate (khabar).

The Shaykh : Of a subject and a predicate. These are the two pillars of the sentence. Okay. Is the subject definite or indefinite?
The student: Definite.

The Shaykh : And the predicate?
The student: Definite.

The Shaykh :
They are the enemy
.
The student: Definite as well.

The Shaykh : Definite as well. And if the two pillars of the sentence are both definite, that indicates restriction. Rest a moment. So his saying:
They are the enemy
is as if he said, "There is no enemy except them." They are the enemy in truth, because they display Islam, mix with the Muslims, take what is with them, and convey it to their awliya (close friends of Allah) among the Shayatins (Satan)
but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say, "Indeed, we are with you إذا خلوا إلى شياطينهم قالوا إنا معكم
[Al-Baqarah 2:14]
. For this reason, he said
They are the enemy, so beware of them.
[Al-Munafiqun 63:4]
So the enmity of the hypocrite toward the Muslim is greater than the enmity of the disbeliever toward the Muslim, because the disbeliever declares and openly states that he is a disbeliever against the Muslim. As for the hypocrite, what does he do? He conceals disbelief and displays friendship. He displays Islam and that he is with you, but he is wicked in nature
They are the enemy, so beware of them. May Allah destroy them; how are they deluded?
[Al-Munafiqun 63:4]
. How many have we counted? Three.
