Reading from the author's text with commentary and collation of manuscripts: "And there are many hadiths agreeing with this, clarifying that his Sunnah, which is moderation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may prayers and peace be upon the noblest of the prophets and messengers, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
As for what follows: Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said in the book *Iqtida' al-Sirat al-Mustaqim*: "And there are many hadiths agreeing with this, clarifying that his Sunnah, which is moderation in worship and in abstaining from desires, is better than the monasticism of the Christians, which is: abstaining from most desires, such as marriage and others, and exaggeration in acts of worship, such as fasting and prayer.
A group of jurists and worshippers have contradicted this through interpretation and lack of knowledge. Similar to this is what Abu Dawud narrated in his *Sunan*, from al-'Ala ibn Abd al-Rahman, from al-Qasim ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Umamah:
That a man said: O Messenger of Allah, permit me to practice monasticism. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The monasticism of my Ummah is jihad in the path of Allah
So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that the monasticism of his Ummah is jihad in the path of Allah.
In another hadith:
That monasticism is fasting
, or
The travelers are the fasting people
, or something similar. This is an explanation of what Allah the Exalted mentioned in the Qur'an in His saying:
the travelers السائحون
"
.

The Shaykh : I have in my copy, in his saying, "in," make it a manuscript.
The reader: "This is an explanation of what Allah the Exalted mentioned in the Qur'an in His saying:
the travelers السائحون
. And His saying:
travelers سائحاتٍ
.
As for the monasticism that is "
.

The Shaykh : As for.
The reader: Correction, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : I have it with the letter fa, so "As for the monasticism."
The reader: Do I say correction or manuscript?

The Shaykh : Yes, "As for the monasticism" is better in terms of context.
The reader: "As for the monasticism that is going out into the wilderness without a specific purpose, it is not from the practice of this Ummah. For this reason, Imam Ahmad said: Monasticism is not part of Islam in any way, nor is it from the actions of the Prophets or the righteous.
Even though a group of our brothers have practiced the forbidden monasticism, interpreting it, or not knowing the prohibition of it. It is from the innovated monasticism about which it was said:
There is no monasticism in Islam
.
The purpose here is to clarify what the Hanifiyyah brought: opposing the Jews in the harshness that befell them regarding the remembrance of Allah and what was revealed"

The Shaykh : Revealed
The reader: "And what was revealed, and opposing the Christians in the innovated monasticism they are upon, even if some of those claiming to be from our knowledge or religion have been afflicted with a share of this or that.
Similar to this is what Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) narrated, saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the morning of the Day of Arafah, while he was on his camel:
Pick up some pebbles for me القُط لي حصى
So I picked up seven pebbles for him, from the pebbles of al-Khadhf, and he kept shaking them in his palm and saying:
Throw at these أمثال هؤلاء فارموا
, then he said:
O people, beware of exaggeration
"
.

The Shaykh : I have
O people... yes.
The reader: "Then he said:
O people, beware of exaggeration in religious matters for those who came before you were doomed because of exaggeration in religious matters.
Sunan Ibn Majah 3029Sahih (Darussalam)
, Ahmad, al-Nasa'i, and Ibn Majah narrated it from the hadith of Awf ibn Abi Jamilah, from Ziyad ibn Husayn, from Abu al-'Aliyah, from him. This is a sound chain according to the conditions of Muslim.
And his saying:
beware of exaggeration in religious matters
Sunan Ibn Majah 3029Sahih (Darussalam)
is general for all types of exaggeration, in beliefs and actions.
Exaggeration is exceeding the limit by adding to the praise or blame of a thing what it deserves, and the like of that"
.

The Shaykh : What it deserves.
The reader: In its praise or its blame, what.

The Shaykh : What it deserves of that, I think, and the like of that, yes.
The reader: "And exaggeration is exceeding the limit by adding to the praise or blame of a thing what it deserves, and the like of that. The Christians are the most exaggerated in beliefs and actions among all sects, and it is them that Allah prohibited from exaggeration in the Qur'an, in His saying:
O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion
[An-Nisa 4:171]
.
The reason for this general phrase is the stoning of the pillars, which is included in it. So exaggeration in it is: such as throwing large stones, and the like of that, based on the fact that it is more emphatic than the small pebbles.
Then he explained that: what destroyed those before us was nothing but exaggeration in religion, as you see it in the Christians"
