The questioner : This message was sent by a sender in a bottle with a piece of paper, and he did not mention his name. He asks: Is the evil eye a reality? We request clarification on this, and how we can treat this affliction with Qur'anic verses, and what are these verses? May Allah guide you?

The Shaykh : The affliction of the evil eye is a reality, indicated by the Qur'an and the Sunnah. As for the Qur'an, some exegetes have held that the meaning of the saying of Allah the Exalted
And indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes when they hear the message وإن يكاد الذين كفروا ليزلقونك بأبصارهم لما سمعوا الذكر
[Al-Qalam 68:51]
is that the evil eye is intended by it. Likewise, the saying of Allah the Exalted
And from the evil of an envier when he envies ومن شر حاسد إلى حسد
, many scholars have held that the evil eye is intended by it. As for the Sunnah, it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he said:
The evil eye is a reality, and if anything had preceded the divine decree, the evil eye would have preceded it العين حق ولو سبق القدر شيء لسبقته العين
.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : This is an explicit text. Furthermore, reality also testifies to this. There is no need to enumerate the known cases in this context, but they are known to all people.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And the best protection against it, indeed the protection from it, is of two types: one is a repelling protection, and the second is a removing protection.
As for the repelling protection, it is that a person uses the protective recitations from the evil eye and others, such as the Verse of the Throne.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Where the Messenger (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) said about it:
Whoever recites it in a night, a protector from Allah will remain over him, and no Shaytan will approach him until he becomes morning من قرأها في ليلة لم يزل عليه من الله حافظ ولا يقربه شيطان حتى يُصبح
. And such as not displaying oneself to one suspected of having the evil eye in a manner that is feared to provoke this one who casts the evil eye. As for the removing causes, yes, the removing causes include ordering the one who casts the evil eye to perform ghusl (full ritual bath), and taking what scatters from his limbs, or performing wudu' (ablution), and taking what scatters from his limbs to pour on the head and back of the afflicted person, and he drinks from it. And at that time, the evil eye is removed by the permission of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He).

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
