The student: In the marginal note it says:
It was narrated that Anas said: “The Prophet (ﷺ) like gourd.” كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يتنفس في الإناء ثلاثا
Sunan Ibn Majah 3302Sahih (Darussalam)
, and in Ahmad and Muslim it says:
breathed three times (outside the vessel) in the course of a drink and said: It is more thirst- quenching, healthier and more wholesome. كان يتنفس في الشراب ثلاثا ويقول: إنه أروى وأبرأ وأمرأ
Sahih Muslim 2028b
, so he asks how we reconcile this with his prohibition of breathing out in the vessel?

The Shaykh : How?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Ah, did you hear his point of difficulty?
The student: No.

Answer: It is easy. Breathing out three times in the drink, or breathing out three times in the vessel: this means outside the vessel.

The questioner : The fath is for the sake of the circumstance.

The Shaykh : The fath is for the sake of the circumstance in both places, but it does not prevent us from saying: he breathes out in the vessel, meaning in the vessel from which he drinks, and the intended meaning is that he breathes out in the drink, in order to align with the hadith of Abu Qatadah.
