Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
He said, may Allah have mercy on him, "Chapter on the Dislike of Cleaning Oneself with the Right Hand
From Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said
Whenever anyone of you makes water he should not hold his penis or clean his private parts with his right hand. (And while drinking) one should not breathe in the drinking utensil إذا بال أحدكم فلا يأخذن ذكره بيمينه ولا يستنجي بيمينه ولا يتنفس في الإناء
Sahih al-Bukhari 154
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim "

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author said, may Allah have mercy on him, in his book Riyad al-Salihin "Chapter on the Dislike of Cleaning Oneself with the Right Hand"
Cleaning oneself is purifying the front or the back from a state of ritual impurity, whether from urine or feces. This is done by using stones or by using water. That is, it is done with stones or whatever serves as a substitute for them, such as rags, wood, earth, and the like, or with water.
However, cleaning oneself with stones has conditions that the scholars, may Allah have mercy on them, have mentioned. As for water, its condition is that the effect of the ritual impurity be removed. The effect of the impurity is known; so when the effect is gone and the place returns to its original state, that is purity.
Then the author mentioned the hadith of Abu Qatadah that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said
None of you should hold his private part لا يمسن أحدكم ذكره
Let none of you clean himself with his right hand. لا يستنجي أحدكم بيمينه
meaning, let him not hold his penis with his right hand to wash it, because the right hand is honored. For this reason, the scholars, may Allah have mercy on them, said that the right hand is preferred except in places of harm, where the left hand is used for the harm and the right hand for everything else. Accordingly, one cleans oneself with the left hand and pours water on oneself from the pitcher or the like with the right hand, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade cleaning oneself with the right hand.
Then he said, may the prayers and peace be upon him,
or wipe himself with his right hand in privy ولا يتمسح من الخلاء بيمينه
Sahih Muslim 267a
meaning, likewise with stones: if one intends to wipe the place of the feces, he should not hold the stone with his right hand, but rather with his left hand.
and he did not breathe into the vessel. ولا يتنفس في الإناء
Sunan Ibn Majah 3288Sahih (Darussalam)
meaning, if one drinks, the recommended practice is to breathe out three times: he drinks first, then pauses, then drinks a second time, then pauses, then drinks a third time. This is the recommended practice, and it is more beneficial for the body and more beneficial for the stomach, because thirst is inflammation and heat in the stomach. If water reaches it all at once, it affects it. But if he sips it and breathes out three times, it is gentler and healthier, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said. However, when he breathes out, he should not breathe into the vessel; he should separate his mouth from the vessel and then breathe out, because breathing into the vessel is harmful to the drinker, because the breath is rising and the water is descending, so they meet and cause spitting.
It is also harmful to the one who drinks after him, because diseases, which they call microbes, may come out with his breath and be in the water, affecting the one who drinks after him. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) forbade a person from breathing into the vessel. And success is from Allah.
