The Shaykh : Yes, recite.
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
And from Abu al-Samh (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
It is only the urine of a female which should be washed; the urine of a male should be sprinkled over. يغسل من بول الجارية ، ويرش من بول الغلام
Sunan Abi Dawud 376Sahih (Al-Albani)
Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i narrated it, and al-Hakim graded it as authentic.
And from Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both):
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding menstrual blood that affects the garment underneath it: then she pinches it with water, then sprinkles it, then prays in it أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال في دم الحيض يصيب الثوب تحتّه، ثم تقرصه بالماء، ثم تنضحه، ثم تصلّي فيه
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
Khawlah said: O Messenger of Allah, what if the blood does not go away? He said: Water is sufficient for you, and its trace does not harm you قالت خولة: يا رسول الله فإن لم يذهب الدم؟ قال: يكفيك الماء ولايضرك أثره
Al-Tirmidhi narrated it, and its chain is weak. "

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
The author stated regarding the hadiths he quoted in the chapter on removing and explaining ritual impurity, from Abu al-Samh (may Allah be pleased with him): Abu al-Samh was one of the servants of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he narrated this hadith from him:
It is only the urine of a female which should be washed يغسل من بول الجارية
Sunan Abi Dawud 376Sahih (Al-Albani)
meaning the young female,
the urine of a male should be sprinkled over ويرشّ من بول الغلام
Sunan Abi Dawud 376Sahih (Al-Albani)
meaning the young male. “Wash” means the urine, and “sprinkle” means the urine. That is, if a person is affected by the urine of a girl, it is washed just as other urines are washed. If he is affected by the urine of a boy, it is sprinkled. The meaning of “sprinkling” here is to pour water over it, even if it does not drip, and the minimum amount is sufficient.
The reason for this hadith is that Abu al-Samh (may Allah be pleased with him) was serving the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he brought him al-Hasan or al-Husayn, and the child urinated on his chest. Abu al-Samh wanted to wash it, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this. Thus, this hadith has a specific cause. However, as the scholars said, the lesson is in the generality of the wording, not the specificity of the cause. Therefore, it is general. If someone asks: What is the criterion for what is washed and what is sprinkled regarding the urine of a boy? We say: The criterion is what is established in the two authentic collections:
that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was brought a boy who had not eaten food, so he urinated in his lap, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered water to be brought and sprinkled it on him أنّ النّبيّ صلّى الله عليه وسلّم أتي بصبيّ لم يأكل الطّعام فبال في حجره فأمر النّبيّ صلّى الله عليه وسلّم بماء فنضحه
So the criterion here is that the child does not eat food. The meaning is not that he does not consume anything, because if we said that, a child in his early days might chew on something. But the meaning is that food should not be a substitute for milk, or the majority of his nutrition. He should be nourished by food more than by milk. If food is his primary nourishment, the matter is clear. But if it is the majority, we say, based on what the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) mentioned regarding prioritizing the majority over the minority in many issues—many issues prioritize the majority over the minority—such as menstruation: if it exceeds fifteen days, this blood becomes irregular bleeding (istihadah) and not menstruation, prioritizing the majority. The animal that eats dung: the scholars said it is considered an animal that eats dung if the majority of its feed is impure, so the majority is considered. Similarly, if the majority of this child’s nutrition is food, we rule that he eats food, even if he drinks milk once or twice a day...
So in this hadith: there is evidence for distinguishing between the female and the male. The differences between the female and the male, in terms of nature and by divine law, are many. And we can, if Allah wills, assign you to study them, as the need calls for it. The difference between the male and the female is in many aspects, natural and legal. Here there is a difference between the urine of the male and the urine of the young female. The female’s urine is washed just as other urines are washed, and the male’s is sprinkled. “Sprinkling” here means pouring water over it until it covers it, whether it drips or not. It does not require wringing or rubbing. If someone asks: What is the difference between them? We say: The difference is the ruling of Allah and His Messenger. Whenever Allah and His Messenger rule on something and distinguish between two similar things, what is the cause? The ruling of Allah and His Messenger. And this cause is sufficient for every believer, and no further discussion is needed after that, because he believes that the ruling of Allah is based on wisdom. And if we believe that the ruling of Allah is based on wisdom, we know that there must be a wisdom that necessitated the difference in ruling. And then we are satisfied. It is not hidden from many of you that a woman asked Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): Why does the menstruating woman make up the fast but not the prayer? She said: We used to be affected by that, and we were ordered to make up the fast but not the prayer. She made that the wisdom, and it is so. But some scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) sought a cause for it, and some scholars said we do not know it, so it is a devotional matter that came in the Sunnah. It is upon us not to ask, but to apply it.
Among the differences mentioned, or among those who mentioned the wisdom of the distinction, is that the food, which is milk, is light and delicate, without the weight of food, meaning it has no visible substance, but it is light, absorbed by the stomach and blood vessels, and what comes out of it is light. Based on this, it aligns with the heat of maleness and the strength of the male’s digestion of food. With this strength and the lightness of the food, the urine is light in impurity. Therefore, there is a difference between it and the urine of the girl in smell, which indicates the validity of this reasoning, and that the impurity in the urine of the male, compared to the urine of the female, is lighter than that of the female. This is one point. Second, they said the urine of the male comes out of a hole in a tube, and this necessitates that it spreads and that what it affects becomes widespread. If what it affects becomes widespread, then avoiding it becomes difficult, because it spreads, so avoiding it becomes difficult. Unlike the urine of the girl, which comes out in a stream without protrusion, so what affects the garment or the body from it is little. And this cause, as you know, applies to three out of four cases. Third, they say the male is desired by his mother, so she carries him a lot, unlike the girl. Generally, the girl is a poor thing, kept in a corner, and they do not pay much attention to her, unlike the male. If she pays a lot of attention to him, she will carry him a lot, and it becomes difficult to avoid his urine, unlike the girl. And this cause applies to two out of four. Why? Because we find that many people, especially in childhood, are more tender to daughters than to sons, and this is a tested fact. And their carrying of the girl is more. In any case, the closest thing is the first cause, which is sufficient for every believer, and it is? That this is the ruling of Allah and His Messenger, and there must be a wisdom, but we cannot encompass all the wisdom of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He).
The second: what we mentioned regarding the lightness of the food and the heat of the body; these combine, and it becomes light, as evidenced by the difference in smell.
