Explanation of the Book of Purification-10

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When one of you awakes from sleep and performs ablution he must clear his nose three times, for the devil spends the night in the interior of his nose.
Mishkat al-Masabih 392, 393, 394
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
"When he wakes up from his sleep": Waking up means becoming alert after sleep. And his saying:
From his sleep
is not restricted to night sleep or day sleep, but his saying
For Satan spends the night
indicates that the sleep intended here is what? Night sleep, and discussion of this will come in the benefits, if Allah wills.
And his saying
Let him sniffle three times
: Sniffling is expelling water from the nose after inhaling it, meaning one inhales water first and then sniffls it out. And his saying:
Three times
means three times. It was not specified whether each sniffling requires a mouthful of water, or if one sniffls with a single mouthful? The answer is that this is a matter of leniency; if he wishes, with one mouthful, and if he wishes, with three mouthfuls. And his saying
for the Shaitan spends the night on his nose.
Sunan an-Nasa'i 90Sahih (Darussalam)
: The "al" in "al" here is for the genus, not for the definite or the specific, so a specific Satan is not intended, but rather the genus of devils is intended. Yes?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Since leniency is granted in the method of purification, leniency is granted in the quantity of his purification in what?
The student: In the quantity.

The Shaykh : In the quantity. Good. How does he wipe his ears? Salim?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : How does he wipe his ears?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Most of the brothers do not see you!
The student: Yes?

The Shaykh : Most of the brothers do not see you!
The student: ...

The Shaykh : ... But how? Describe it to us in words.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : He inserts his two index fingers into the cavities of his ears. Good.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : And he wipes with the thumb?
The student: The outer part of the ears.

The Shaykh : The outer part of the ears? What is the outer part of the ears?
The student: The part near the head.

The Shaykh : The part near the head. May Allah reward you. The hadith of Abu Hurayrah, which we began last night, said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When one of you awakes from sleep and performs ablution he must clear his nose three times, for the devil spends the night in the interior of his nose.
Mishkat al-Masabih 392, 393, 394
We asked what is the meaning of sniffling?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Yes?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : This is sniffling? This is sniffling? How?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : It means inhaling water and then expelling it, right? Good. Sniffling without inserting water is not called sniffling, as stated in the Qamus, that sniffling is expelling water with the nose after inhaling it.
And his saying:
When anyone of you wakes up from sleep
Sunan Ibn Majah 394Sahih (Darussalam)
We said that the word "sleep" is general, and the way it is general is that it is attached (mudaf), and a singular attached word is for generality. And his saying:
For Satan
We said that the "al" here means the genus, meaning it is not a specific Satan, but the genus of devils.
Spends the night on his nose
On his nose, because "khaishum" (nose) is used for the entire nose and for the thin bones inside the nose.
