Continuation of the explanation of the hadith (that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed wudu and wiped over his forehead and over the turban and the leather socks). It was narrated by Muslim.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The second opinion is that there is no time limit for it, because there is no evidence for it. If the time limit had been part of the Shari'ah of Allah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would have specified it.
Is the analogy with the leather socks valid or not valid?
The student: Not correct.

The Shaykh : It is not valid, as you know. Based on this, we say: As long as you are wearing the turban, wipe over it. And when you take it off, wipe over the head. There is no time limit.
The sixth issue: Is it permissible to wipe over it in the state of major ritual impurity, meaning in the full ritual bath?
The answer is: No, it is not permissible to wipe over it in the full ritual bath, because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves وإن كنتم جنبا فاطَّهروا
[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]
. In the purification from major ritual impurity, there is nothing that is wiped over except what is necessitated by dire necessity, such as a cast. Dire necessity does not call for the turban. Therefore, it is not permissible to wipe over the turban in the state of major ritual impurity, because in major ritual impurity, it is necessary to purify the entire body, as Allah the Exalted said:
And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves وإن كنتم جنبا فاطهروا
[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]
.
And his saying in the hadith:
And over the leather socks. وعلى الخفين
means wiping over the leather socks. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not mention a reason for the wiping except that he put them on while in a state of purity. So let us take this condition until we reach the chapter on wiping over the leather socks, if Allah wills, in the chapter on wiping over the leather socks.
As for his saying:
And over his forehead. وعلى ناصيته
, some scholars derived from it the permissibility of limiting oneself to wiping the forehead of the head, and that it is not obligatory to cover the entire head in the wiping. But there is a consideration in this, because his saying:
and wiped over his forehead and wiped over his turban فمسح بناصيته وعلى العمامة
Sahih Muslim 274k
indicates that he was wearing the turban. It is known that when a person wears the turban, the forehead will be exposed. And when the forehead is exposed, it is necessary to wipe it. As for when the head is not covered by the turban, Allah commanded to wipe over all of it in His saying:
And wipe your heads وامسحوا برؤوسكم
.
