The Shaykh : He said: "And in Muslim, from the hadith of Abu Musa:
He then said the morning player when it was daybreak, but the people could hardly recognise one another. أقام الفجر حين انشق الفجر والناس لا يكاد يعرف بعضهم بعضًا
Sahih Muslim 614a
"
He established the Fajr prayer أقام الفجر
That is: the Fajr prayer. The intended meaning of "established" here is the act, not the known recitation. We said this so that we would take "established" in its literal meaning. It is possible that by his saying:
He established أقام
he means: he ordered the one who establishes it. In that case, the intended meaning of "establishing" is what? The specific recitation. And his saying:
when the dawn broke حين انشق الفجر
he described that as a breaking, because when the dawn shines upon the darkness, it is as if it has split it, because the darkness becomes distinct in the place of the light, so this is a breaking. This does not occur except in the true dawn, because it extends from the north to the south and connects to the horizon, and there is no darkness after it. This is the true dawn. There is also the false dawn, and it differs from the true dawn in three things: First: the false dawn is elongated, meaning it rises in the sky lengthwise. Second: it does not connect to the horizon, because there is darkness between it and the horizon. Third: it fades and disappears. As for the true one, as you know, these three things do not apply to it.
And his saying:
but the people could hardly recognise one another والناس لا يكاد يعرف بعضهم بعضا
Sahih Muslim 614a
means: they do not come close to one another. Yes, they do not come close in recognizing one another, and that is due to the intensity of the darkness and the lack of illumination by torches. The benefits will come, if Allah wills. Yes.
