Since Allah named the idols gods, is it correct for us to say that there is no god existing except Allah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student: .......

The Shaykh : It has been mentioned previously that they are not called gods in truth; they are called gods falsely. Allah named them gods, and the messengers also named them gods. Yes, they are gods, but they are false. And because of their falsity, the negation in His saying is valid:
There is no god but Allah.لا إله إلا الله
Sunan Abi Dawud 3117Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
The student: ......

The Shaykh : No, we estimate that "there is no true god"; the predicate of the subject is omitted, and the estimation is "true" except Allah.
The student: Is it permissible for me to say "there is no god existing" and consider those gods as mere names?

The Shaykh : No, no, it is not correct. Because if we estimated it this way, some of them estimated it this way and said: the estimation is "there is no god existing." But if we said this, the polytheists would object to us and say: if you say these are not gods, then we are not polytheists, because we did not worship a god. And this is false. So it is obligatory that we estimate "there is no true god except Allah." And this is the explicit meaning of the Qur'an. Allah named them gods and said:
And do not invoke besides Allah any other god ولا تدعُ مع الله إلهًا آخَر
He named him a god. And this is not a refutation of the polytheists until we say this is from the perspective of accommodating the opponent. And Ibrahim said to his people:
Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allah you desire? أئِفْكًا آلهةً دون الله تريدون
[As-Saffat 37:86]
, and the righteous man -to his people- the advisor said:
Should I take other than Him [false] deities [while], if the Most Merciful intends for me some adversity ءَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دونِه آلهةً إن يُرِدْنِ الرحمنُ بِضُرّ
[Ya-Sin 36:23]
So the revealed revelation, the speech of the messengers, and the speech of the righteous agreed upon this. Yes.
