The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Indeed, Allah only intends to remove from you, [O] People of the House, impurity and to purify you with a thorough purification”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Among its benefits is that Allah, with His perfect wisdom, intended to remove impurity from the People of the House, as He said:
Allah intends only to remove from you the impurity [of sin], O people of the [Prophet's] household
[Al-Ahzab 33:33]
.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that submission in speech, and the display of adornment of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, are among the impurities, while staying in the homes, establishing prayer, giving zakah, and obeying Allah and His Messenger are among the causes for the removal of impurity. This is because what precedes are commands and prohibitions, and Allah the Exalted made it clear that He only commanded them and prohibited them in order to remove impurity from this House
Indeed, Allah only intends to remove from you the impurity, O People of the House
.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that a man’s wives are part of his People of the House. If he says this, it includes the women. So if he says regarding the sacrifice, “O Allah, this is from me and from my People of the House,” it includes the women, because Allah the Exalted made the wives of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) part of the People of the House.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the exaltation and magnification of this House, as He said:
People of the House
. The article “al” indicates a mental covenant, as if this House is a known, established matter in the minds of people, not absent from them, due to the high status and noble quality of this House.
Among its benefits is also that Allah Mighty and Majestic intended to remove impurity and the trace of impurity. Where is this taken from? From His saying:
and to purify you with a thorough purification وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا
. This is beyond the removal of impurity, because if we compare this to a tangible example and say that this garment was stained with impurity, and we scraped this impurity until its substance was gone, what is this called? This is the removal of impurity. But if we poured water until the place was completely clean and the trace was gone, that became purification. For this reason, it came in the authentic hadith in the supplication of opening the prayer:
Allahumma ba'id baini was baina khatayaya kama ba'adta baina al-mashriq wal-maghrib; Allahumma naqqini min khatayaya kama yunaqqath-thawb al-abyad min ad-danas; Allahummaghsilni min khatayaya bith-thalji wal-ma'i wal-barad
Sunan an-Nasa'i 60Sahih (Darussalam)
. So he mentioned distancing first, before being involved in the sin, then he mentioned purification from the sin after being involved in it, then he mentioned something more emphatic than that, which is washing, washing this sin and its traces with water, snow, and cold. The conclusion is that we say that His saying:
purify you with a thorough purification يطهركم تطهيراً
is beyond the removal of impurity.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the affirmation of the will of Allah, as He said:
Allah intends only to remove from you the impurity [of sin], O people of the [Prophet's] household
[Al-Ahzab 33:33]
.
Among its benefits is also that the purified house, whether it is the house of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) or any other house, is considered among the best of houses, and its purification is considered among the greatest blessings for them. Where is this taken from? From the fact that Allah bestowed this upon the People of the House of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and this is a known thing among people. People are like the ores of gold and silver; some people are of a bad ore and some people are of a good ore. So if someone from a noble lineage, from a noble tribe, becomes involved in one of the impurities, what do people say? They are surprised by it and disapprove of it, and they see this as more severe. But if someone becomes involved in one of the impurities and he is from a tribe known for that, what do they say? They are not surprised; they say that the branch is from the tree, and it is not strange for him to do this action, because his fathers, brothers, uncles, and the like did the same. Undoubtedly, if Allah bestows upon the People of the House, upon the People of the House of any of the houses, purification, nobility, cleanliness, and integrity, then that is a blessing of Allah upon them. And know that Allah the Exalted may place in the hand of one person the purification of his entire tribe, as is observed: one righteous, reforming man comes out, he vows to his close relatives and strives to call them to the truth, so Allah the Exalted reforms his entire tribe through his hand, if that comes with sincerity and obedience to His command, Glorified and Exalted is He, in His saying:
And warn, [O Muhammad], your closest kindred.
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:214]
. But I do not know about ourselves; what do you say? Yes, by Allah, Allah will reform us. We have negligence and neglect. A person does not check on his family who are in his house, nor does he check on his relatives and those in his household. Yes, this is the reality, because people are not as they should be. The limit of their communication, if they communicate, is in worldly matters, but the gifts of religion are rare. However, praise be to Allah, there are some. I do not say that I despair you of the mercy of Allah. There are, praise be to Allah, some who, when they see in the house of their relatives what they dislike, they advise them, guide them, and clarify that to them. And perhaps some people boycott them and do not go to them, all of this out of concern for correcting them.
The student: Did they used to need each other, and now...?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is true that now they are not like before. Yes, and poverty is a good garment in reality. Yes, just as Ahmad al-Shuwa'ir said: “Poverty...” So the conclusion is that poverty may contain good. Yes, “Among the servants of Allah are some whom, if Allah had made them rich, their wealth would have corrupted them”. But with that, do not despair. By Allah, how many hearts are among the most sinful of the servants of Allah? This is what makes us regret; it is despair. Ya'qub (peace be upon him) said to his sons:
go and find out about Joseph and his brother and despair not of relief from Allah
[Yusuf: 87]. Even though at that hour, what did he think? He thought they would not find them. But with this, due to the strength of his hope in Allah Mighty and Majestic, and that matters are not measured by what you see, there is something behind the material, there is something behind what is seen and what you hear, which is the will of Allah Mighty and Majestic and His power:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.
[At-Talaq 2: 3]. From the perspective that he did not think sustenance would come to him from there. We ask Allah to grant us and you certainty.
The student: Did Ya'qub know that Yusuf was alive?

The Shaykh : It is not possible for him to think and hope, because Allah had promised him that.
The student: ...
I know from Allah what you do not know.
[Al-A'raf 7:62]
?

The Shaykh : Yes, he thinks and hopes, but these realities may give the heart despair.
