Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for the chapter that follows, it is about explaining the rights of the household of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The household of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is divided into two categories:
One category is disbelievers. These are not of his household, even if they are his relatives by blood, because they are not of his household. This is because Allah said to Noah (peace be upon him) when he said:
My Lord, indeed my son is of my family
[Hud 11:45]
, and his son was a disbeliever, so he said:
indeed he is not of your family
[Hud 11:46]
,
So the disbelievers among the relatives of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) are not of his household, even if they are his relatives by blood.
But his believing relatives are his household, and among them are also his wives. His wives (may Allah be pleased with them) are of his household, as Allah the Exalted said in the context of the wives of the Mothers of the Believers:
(32) O wives of the Prophet, you are not like anyone among women. If you fear Allah, then do not be soft in speech [to men], lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak with appropriate speech. (33) And abide in your houses and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance. And establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah intends only to remove from you the impurity [of sin], O people of the [Prophet's] household, and to purify you with [extensive] purification.
[Al-Ahzab 33:32-33]
. This is a clear and very explicit text that the wives of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) are of his household, contrary to the Rafidah who said that his wives are not of his household. So his wives are of his household without doubt.
The believing household of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) have two rights: the right of faith, and the right of kinship with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
The wives of the Messenger are the Mothers of the Believers, as Allah the Exalted said in His Book: "And his wives are the mothers of the believers." The wives of the Messenger are the Mothers of the Believers, and this is by consensus. So whoever says: "Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) is not my mother," is not among the believers, because Allah said:
And his wives
: meaning the wives of the Messenger
their mothers أمهاتهم
: are the mothers of the believers. The beginning of the verse is:
The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than themselves, and his wives are [in the position of] their mothers
[Al-Ahzab 33:6]
. So whoever says that Aisha is not a mother to the believers, he is not a believer, not a believer in the Qur'an, and not a believer in the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
And it is amazing for these people, who cast doubt on Aisha, insult her, and hate her, while she is the most beloved of the wives of the Messenger to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). He does not love any of his women as he loves her, as it is authentically reported from him in al-Bukhari that he said:
It was said: O Messenger of Allah, who is the most beloved of people to you? He said: Aisha. They said: And among the men? He said: Her father.
: Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him).
And these people dislike Aisha, insult her, and curse her, while she is the closest of the women of the Messenger to him. How can it be said that these people love the Messenger? And how can it be said that these people love the household of the Messenger? But these are false claims with no basis in truth.
So it is obligatory upon us to respect the household of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) from his believing relatives, and from his wives, the Mothers of the Believers. They are all of his household and have a right.
Then the author mentioned the verse that we have just quoted:
Allah intends only to remove from you the impurity [of sin], O people of the [Prophet's] household, and to purify you with [extensive] purification.
[Al-Ahzab 33:33]
: purity and cleanliness,
Allah intends only to remove from you the impurity
[Al-Ahzab 33:33]
: the spiritual impurity,
And to purify you with a thorough purification.
after removing the impurity, purification is cleansing and adorning. And his saying
purification تَطْهِيراً
: this is an emphatic verbal noun confirming what came before, indicating that it is a complete purification.
Therefore, whoever accuses one of the women of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) of zina, may Allah protect us from that, is a disbeliever, even if it is not Aisha.
As for Aisha, whoever accuses her of what Allah has cleared her of is a disbeliever who denies Allah, and his blood and wealth are lawful. As for whoever accuses another of zina, the correct opinion of the scholars is that he is also a disbeliever, because this is a greater slander against the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), that his bed is with those who commit zina, may Allah protect us from that. And Allah the Exalted said:
Evil words are for evil men, and evil men are [subjected] to evil words.
[An-Nur 24:26]
.
So whoever accuses one of the wives of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) of zina has made the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) -may he be far from that- impure. We seek refuge in Allah, because Allah says:
the evil women are for the evil men الْخَبِيثَاتُ لِلْخَبِيثِينَ
. And by this it is known that the matter is great and serious, and that it is obligatory upon us to have sincere love for all the household of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), all his women and his believing relatives. And Allah is the One who grants success.
The reader: "When we sat with him, Husayn said to him: You have met much good, O Zayd. You saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and heard his hadith, and you went on expeditions with him and prayed behind him. You have met much good, O Zayd. Tell us what you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: O my son, by Allah, I am old, my memory is weak, and I have forgotten some of what I used to know from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So what I tell you, accept it, and what I do not, do not force me. Then he said:
He then said: One day Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) stood up to deliver sermon at a watering place known as Khumm situated between Mecca and Medina. He praised Allah, extolled Him and delivered the sermon and. exhorted (us) and said: Now to our purpose. O people, I am a human being. I am about to receive a messenger (the angel of death) from my Lord and I, in response to Allah's call, (would bid good-bye to you), but I am leaving among you two weighty things: the one being the Book of Allah in which there is right guidance and light, so hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it. He exhorted (us) (to hold fast) to the Book of Allah and then said: The second are the members of my household I remind you (of your duties) to the members of my family. He (Husain) said to Zaid: Who are the members of his household? Aren't his wives the members of his family? Thereupon he said: His wives are the members of his family (but here) the members of his family are those for whom acceptance of Zakat is forbidden. And he said: Who are they? Thereupon he said: 'Ali and the offspring of 'Ali, 'Aqil and the offspring of 'Aqil and the offspring of Ja'far and the offspring of 'Abbas. Husain said: These are those for whom the acceptance of Zakat is forbidden. Zaid said: Yes.
Sahih Muslim 2408a
, narrated by Muslim."
And in a narration:
Know that I am leaving behind you two weighty matters: one of them is the Book of Allah, which is the rope of Allah. Whoever follows it will be upon guidance, and whoever abandons it will be upon misguidance.
