Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And those who disbelieved said, 'The Hour will not come upon us'"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Then Allah the Exalted said, and this is today's lesson:
But those who disbelieve say, "The Hour will not come to us." وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لا تَأْتِينَا السَّاعَةُ
[Saba 34:3]
Those who disbelieved in Allah (Mighty and Majestic), in His power, and in His wisdom said,
The Hour will not come to us لا تأتينا الساعة
[Saba 34:3]
Did they say this exact phrase, or did they only convey the meaning of this phrase? The answer is that they said this exact phrase, because the principle is that what is reported from the unseen is reported with its exact wording and details. So they said,
The Hour will not come to us لا تأتينا الساعة
[Saba 34:3]
And in another place they said, "Who will give life to the bones when they are crumbled?" Their expressions varied in their denial of the Resurrection; they varied. They said,
The Hour will not come to us لا تأتينا الساعة
[Saba 34:3]
And [that they may know] that the Hour is coming - no doubt about it - and that Allah will resurrect those in the graves. وَأَنَّ السَّاعَةَ آتِيَةٌ لا رَيْبَ فِيهَا وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَبْعَثُ مَنْ فِي الْقُبُورِ
[Al-Hajj: 7] So they lied about the word of Allah, relying on the rejection of their minds that these decayed bones could return to become a living human being. And they did not know that He who began creation is able to restore them.
And it is He who begins creation; then He repeats it, and that is [even] easier for Him وَهُوَ الَّذِي يَبْدَأُ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ وَهُوَ أَهْوَنُ عَلَيْهِ
[Ar-Rum: 27] So their objection in this denial is what? It is merely rejection. This is the first point. Second, they say: If you are truthful that we will be resurrected, then bring our fathers; resurrect them for us. This is a challenge in the wrong place, because the messengers did not tell them that you are being resurrected now. You will be resurrected when? When the creation ends and all the people die, then they will be resurrected. So this challenge is in the wrong place. This challenge would be in the right place if the messengers had said that people are being resurrected, the first of them now, while the last of them still exists. Then it would be valid to say, "Bring our fathers if you are truthful." But since they said that they will be resurrected after the entire creation has perished, from whom will they be resurrected? So there is no challenge in this. The important point is that their objection is rejection, and the challenge in the wrong place where they said, "Bring our fathers."
