The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And we had no authority over you, but you were a people who transgressed. So the word of our Lord has come to pass upon us: ‘Indeed, we are going to taste [punishment].’ So we led you astray; indeed, we were [ourselves] astray.”

Among the benefits of these verses is
First, it exonerates both the followers and the followed on the Day of Resurrection from this misguidance. The followers place the blame on the followed, and the followed place the blame on the followers.
It also contains the benefit that the followed have no authority to compel the followers; rather, the followers chose misguidance for themselves.
It also serves as evidence that these polytheists and disbelievers were more aware of reality than the Jabriyyah and their like, who claim that a person is compelled in his actions. These [polytheists] acknowledge that a person acts by his own choice, as indicated by His saying:
And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people.
[As-Saffat 37:30]

Among its benefits is that the followers on the Day of Resurrection will not benefit from following the followed. Rather, the followed will rebuke them for their transgression, saying, “You are the ones who exceeded the limit by leaving the following of the messengers and then following us.”
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the affirmation of the speech of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and that He speaks, as indicated by His saying:
So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment].
[As-Saffat 37:31]
Speech is that from which benefit is derived.
From this follows that the speech of Allah is by letters and sound, as is the doctrine of the people of the Sunnah and the community, contrary to the Asha'irah who say that the speech of Allah is the meaning subsisting in the self, and that what is heard of these letters and sound is a creation created by Allah the Exalted to express what is in His self.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the acknowledgment by the deniers of the messengers of oneness of lordship, as indicated by His saying:
So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us
[As-Saffat 37:31]

From this follows the refutation of most of the theologians who interpret tawhid (the oneness of Allah) as oneness of lordship only. They say that tawhid is to believe that Allah the Exalted is One in His essence with no partner, One in His actions with no partner, and One in His attributes with no likeness. In these three phrases, they did not mention oneness of worship; that is, they did not say, “One in His worship with no partner.” Rather, they made tawhid consist only of oneness of lordship and oneness of attributes, despite the generality in this statement that requires detail, and despite the omission of oneness of worship.
This tawhid which the leaders of the theologians claim is the tawhid brought by the messengers is undoubtedly one that the polytheists acknowledged and did not deny. And yet, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared them to be polytheists and made their blood, women, wealth, and lands lawful [to be taken].
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that these deniers, both followers and followed, will all be subjected to punishment, as indicated by His saying:
Indeed, we are going to taste [punishment].

Among the benefits of this noble verse is the warning against the company of the misguiders, as indicated by His saying:
And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." فأغويناكم إنا كنا غاوين
[As-Saffat 37:32]
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) warned against the company of a bad companion and said:
The example of a good companion is like a carrier of musk: either he sells it to you, or he gives it to you, or you find a pleasant scent from him. And the example of a bad companion is like a bellower of the forge: either he burns your clothes, or you find a foul smell from him.

Among the benefits of this noble verse is attributing a thing to its cause, as indicated by His saying:
So we led you astray.
because they were not the ones who led them astray, but rather they were the cause of their misguidance. For guidance and misguidance are in the hand of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), but these were the cause of the misguidance of these [people], so the action was attributed to them, as indicated by His saying:
And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." فأغويناكم إنا كنا غاوين
[As-Saffat 37:32]
