Commentary on Tafsir al-Jalalayn: ((And We left)) We preserved ((for him among the later generations)) a good reputation ((peace)) from Us ((upon Ibrahim * Thus))

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
He said
And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations: وتركنا عليه في الآخرين
[As-Saffat 37:78]
He said, "We left," and the author said"We preserved good praise
among the later ones في الآخرين
peace from us upon Ibrahim"
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) informed us that "left" here means "preserved," and that its object is omitted, with the implied meaning being "good praise." This is one of the two opinions on the issue. The second opinion is that the object of "we left" is His saying,
Peace upon Ibrahim
This means that Allah left upon him, in the hereafter, peace, meaning he is safe from ugly praise. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) preferred this view in his book *Jala' al-Afham*, stating that the object of "we left" is the sentence in his statement:
Peace upon Ibrahim
He is the one who was left, and for this reason he is praised until the Day of Resurrection. It is said: "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Majestic," as is recited in the Noble Qur'an, describing the attributes by which he is praised. And his saying:
Peace upon Ibrahim
"Peace" means safety from the defects and flaws that affect humans, and from the ugly praise that falls upon him from others. For this reason, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was such that all people took pride in claiming descent from him, even the Jews who said, "We are upon the religion of Ibrahim," and the Christians who said, "We are upon the religion of Ibrahim." Allah the Exalted said:
Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allah]. And he was not of the polytheists.
[Al-Imran:67]
(78) And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations: (79) "Peace upon Noah among the worlds." (80) Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
[As-Saffat 37:78-80]
for themselves
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
[As-Saffat 37:81]

The student: ...

The Shaykh : No.
The student: Indeed, Allah is All-Seeing of the servants.
The Shaykh : Indeed, Allah is All-Seeing of the servants, and specifically like what?
The student:
And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily
[Al-Furqan 25:63]

The Shaykh : Yes, the specific type also contains what is specific with some generality, and it includes, like the verse mentioned by Hajjaj, what is more specific, which is the servitude of the message, as He the Exalted said:
Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion upon His Servant that he may be to the worlds a warner -
[Al-Furqan: 1]. And the more specific it is, the more perfect it is. Does the specific contradict the general? No, because the specific servitude or specific lordship is included within the general lordship or general servitude. So whoever is a servant of Allah in the specific sense is a servant of Allah in the general sense, but not vice versa; meaning, not everyone who is a servant of Allah in the general sense is a servant of Allah in the specific sense.
