Commentary on Tafsir al-Jalalayn: ((Those who listen to the statement and then follow the best of it)) which is what is in their success ((Those are the ones whom Allah has guided, and those are

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Allah the Exalted said:
and then follow the best of it فيتبعون احسنه
and it is what is in their well-being " It is what is in their well-being, but the best is that they follow the best, so the best, alright, Allah the Exalted said:
Those are the ones whom Allah has guided
Those are the ones whom Allah has guided
He has guided themهداهم الله
First
Thoseأولئك
the reference is to the distant, and He referred to them with a reference to the distant despite the nearness of their mention to indicate the elevation of their status, and this occurs often in the Qur'an, where Allah refers to a near thing with the form of the distant, due to the elevation of its rank, as Allah the Exalted said:
This is the Book about which there is no doubt
[Al-Baqarah 2:2]
... He says
That is the Book
the Book is near, but is it a reference? Due to the elevation of its rank, sometimes the near is referred to, due to its nearness to its seeker, as in His saying the Exalted:
a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses
[Sad 38:29]
meaning it is not distant from them: it is near to them
blessed, that they may reflect upon its versesمبارك ليدبروا آياته
, here He says:
Those are the ones whom Allah has guided
did He refer to them with a reference to the distant?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : a reference to the elevation of their rank,
Those are the ones whom Allah has guided
this sentence is declarative, both of its sides are definite, and the scholars said: if the declarative sentence has both sides definite, then it implies restriction
Those are the ones whom Allah has guided
meaning none other, and His saying:
He has guided them هداهم اللهُ
includes guidance of indication and guidance of success, meaning He clarified the truth for them and they knew it, then they followed it, and people in this regard are three categories: a category that strayed from guidance in knowledge and action, a category that were guided to the truth in knowledge and action, and a category that were guided to the truth in knowledge but did not follow it in action, did you understand? Can I say: and a category that followed the truth in action but did not follow it in knowledge? It is not possible, why? Because there is no action upon the truth except with knowledge of the truth, so the division is fourfold, the division is fourfold, but the fourth side of it is not realized, alright, it is impossible, so
Those are the ones whom Allah has guided
guidance?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : indication and success, meaning if you wish, say: guidance of knowledge and action, which one is the indication?
The student: knowledge
The Shaykh : knowledge, and success?
The student: action

The Shaykh : action, alright
Those are the ones Allah has guided, and those are people of understanding.
[Az-Zumar 39:18]
And thoseوأولئك
He repeated the demonstrative noun to emphasize the elevation of their rank,
people of understanding.
[Az-Zumar 39:18]
meaning the possessors of intellect, because the more a person follows the truth, the more perfect his intellect is, and the more his following of the truth decreases, the more it indicates the smallness of his intellect, so the most intelligent of people are the most following of the religion of Allah, without doubt, because they are the ones who have resolve, seizing of opportunities, and preservation of time, and for this He said: "
and those are people of understanding.
[Az-Zumar 39:18]
the possessors of intellect", alright, if someone asks: are not the disbelievers possessors of intellect? The answer is: yes, but they are possessors of perceptive intellect, not intellect of guidance, and for this they were obligated and bound, because they have perceptive intellect, but they are not successful, because they lost the intellect of guidance.
Alright, in this noble verse
But those who have avoided Taghut, lest they worship it
[Az-Zumar 39:17]
there are benefits
